Charles's POV

For the fifth time I arrived I glanced at the doors. Lily still wasn't here yet! Where could she be?

The Room of Requirement was dark, bright neon lights flashing on the glass dance floor.  Loud booming music overwhelmed the room. Small chatter and laughter was heard as people danced and talked, drinking glasses of firewhiskey and butterbeer.

One of the most amazing things there were the costumes. Everyone from our school was here. Some people were dressed as famous wizards and witches. Some went to the extreme, like Karl, who used a spell to become a ghost for a couple of hours. Then there were few, like me, who dressed in the least typical costume you'd think possible.

Don't ask.

Yesterday, Lily wouldn't tell me what her costume was, even after I told her mine: a red puffy vest over a white shirt, ripped jeans tucked into classic hi-tops, a grey beanie, and sunglasses to match with a heavy gold chain.

I smiled, remembering the weird way she looked at me.

"What?" I said. "If muggles can dress like wizards, than we can dress like muggles."

"I am almost a 100% sure that muggles don't wear that," she said without hesitation. "Can you even find all those things in Hogsmeade?"

"If you know where to look."

Out of habit, I glanced at the doors again. No Lily.

"Dude, who are you looking for?" Karl asked.

"I'm not looking for anyone," I said.

"Oh, come on," he picked up a pumpkin pastry from the long table of deserts behind him. "You've been glancing at the door for the past ten minutes. Did you secretly bring a date and didn't tell me?"

I took a swig of butterbeer, wishing for any way to get out of answering.

"Charles?" A female voice called.

I cursed foully. I knew that voice anywhere. Abigail.

Wish granted.

Abigail called my name again, and I looked around in panic, "Hide me!" I pleaded Karl, before he shoved me under the clothed table.

The air was stuffy under the draped table, the edge of the long white cloth an inch above the ground.

I saw the bottom of heavy silver heels.

"Karl," Abigail said in an abrupt tone.

"Abigail," Karl greeted lightly.

"Have you seen Charles?"

"Last I heard, he went with Scorpius to the bathroom. I feel bad for Charles, he's like a house elf the way he serves Scorpius."

I felt my blood run cold at his careless words.

Abigail's shocked silence made me want to punch Karl in the face. I obviously didn't care what she thought, but what if other people overheard? What if she told?
