“Leenah…wait!” I heard the man call behind me. Though I hadn’t known the guy long, he had been very helpful to me on the planet of Boone. It was very hot as I turned and the middle-aged man came running at me with a dirty face, baggy clothes, and short ruffled hair. “Here…” he handed me a canteen, a round tin with most likely water in it, and was breathing heavily. I twisted the cap on top of it, my ripped sleeves scratched against my arms as I moved and took a swig. As I screwed the cap back on I could see him staring at my tattoo.
“You’re probably wondering why I have it huh?” He looked up at me as my voice came across my lips smooth and confident. I held out my forearm that had ink imbedded in it forever—the picture of wolf eyes staring back at him. His brown eyes met mine, searching them for some hint of an answer. “I think maybe that’s a bedtime story for another time.” I winked at him and turned around yelling my thanks over my shoulder as I walked. “Thanks for the hint.”
My tight boots hit the ground with force as I sauntered through the desert-like land, buildings made of rock surrounding me, heads peeking out of their windows, and men walking the streets returning home from their jobs. I had landed on this planet by accident and even came across the man on accident as well. It was obvious why he helped me—the hope for his dick to be satisfied by a ‘damsel in distress.’ He was sweet, but his motor didn’t get my car running quite the way I liked it.
The wind was blowing hard through the buildings, blowing my loose shirt this way and that, nearly revealing my bra underneath. My dark brown hair was whipping into my face, the rest of it tied into a long length behind me. I reached the center of the town—nothing but camp sites full of tables that sold crap. There were women and children buying food and crafts and men buying tools from other families that lived here. I slipped through the strangers easily, completely going unnoticed in this little planet. Slowing down and stopping at a table toward the eastern side of the market I saw my target.
A small family ship was just landing—the ship the guy had told me about. He had no idea that I was planning on stealing it, but instead thought that I needed a battery that most ships kept in case one failed. I looked at the table in front of me, looking inconspicuous as I picked up a small pipe made of bone. It was interesting, considering it had a very sharp point on one side. I put it down as what must have been the father lowered the entrance to the ship, throwing up a gust of dust as it landed onto the sand.
I picked up another one of the pipes and pretended to examine it. Flicking my eyes up every now and then, I waited until his two children and wife gathered their things and started walking off. “Excuse eh me.” The old woman managing the table spoke to me. “Are eh you going to eh buy anyting’?” her accent was bold and rusty, but quite annoying. I looked at her with a glare and then walked away from the table and over to the ship as I examined it.
It was a simple ship, cheap with barely any blast power. It was about one floor height, maybe a bedroom in size—barely big enough for a family. I ran my gloved hand over the metal, my bare fingers feeling the heat from it’s ran engine. My hand rested over the dull button and ever so slightly pushed it in. The door started to groan as I looked around and was happy that no one was paying attention. They were making this to easy. Walking in I quickly shut the door and turned around to see what I was really dealing with.
To the right there was a small sleeping box, brightly lighted with a yellow color and next to that was a cabin for the toilet. To the left I was surprised to see pictures of their family hung on the wall. Five pictures held all of their strange faces. I shook my head and walked over to the controls, and looked for the lever that would open the windshield door. I pulled forward the middle one and watched as the giant metal door lifted open and revealed the buildings and sand in front of me. “Alright…” I said to myself.
