I was lying in my bed when I heard the familiar buzzing of the opening doors. I stood up from the hard rock cushion beneath me and peered out the small barred and glass window that allowed me to look out into the hallway. I saw as a different man walked to a door on the other side and flashed his ID through the scanner and the door clicked open. Almost immediately a young man, probably around the age of ten, jumped out and onto one of the transporters. He had sharp teeth only and his skin seemed to start turning green the more he snapped at the transporter. I examined him more closely and realized he looked scaly.
My eyes widened slightly as I started to realize I wasn’t the only one they were trying to turn into something else. “Restrain him!” the man yelled, and his short brown hair and green eyes seemed to froth around frantically as he ran from the young boy. However, more transports came into the hallway clinging to their catching and electric weapons. The poor boy was seized before he could get to his case worker. I bit at my bottom lip, trying to keep the tears at bay for the young soul. He was most likely like me, kept here since he was born, his mother killed when their experiments weren’t going as planned.
I turned away from the door and looked at my steel room. I had put a few more dents in the walls, and my hands were red and scarred from the attempts. I ambled around the room, sliding my fingers against the hard material in my medical gown and bare feet. My hair was down, strung against my face and neck from sweat that seemed like it just wouldn’t go away. I had been clammy since I had been captured, and I couldn’t stop thinking about him. I was probably never going to see him again, because he didn’t know where I was, he was in another prison, and he would have to start all over. Plus, there was no guarantee that he would even start looking for me after he escaped.
I bated my eyelashes to keep the tears at bay as I heard the buzzing again. Instead of going to look I pressed my back against the far wall and stared at my large iron door. I had a gut feeling it was me they were coming for next, and as I saw that man’s face I knew that it was right. Marston gave me a wicked smile as I glared at him from the other side. He backed up and I could hear the beeping as the door clicked open and four transports stood in front of him in their usual attire. I growled and my yellow eyes came forth. My beast and I knew what we had to do to get out of here, and it wasn’t going to be pretty.
“Please Leenah, the less you fight this, the easier it will be…for me.” He smiled that same grin that made both my beast and I want to rip his lips off of his face. I snarled and my beast became more and more noticeable as my four incisors sharpened.
“I know that even if you finish your experiments you won’t let me leave.” My voice was more raspy, my beast making itself more known. He raised an eyebrow at me and nodded to the side slightly.
“This is correct, though when we are done with these experiments, you won’t want to leave.” He fluttered his fingers forward and watched as the transports rushed forward and held out their taser, their blue light flickering dangerously at the end of their long poles. My beast swallowed hard as I clenched my jaws together, hiding my teeth. “Better…” he stated as the two with their catching poles slid the wire over my neck and then the other around my hands pulled hard and yanked me forward out of my cell.
“You see…” Marston started as he walked down the hall out of our corridors and flashed his ID at a camera. “We are starting a few new experiments due to your escape. We realized that even if we could turn you into a full fledged killing machine that it wouldn’t really matter unless we were able to control you. We don’t want to torture you into submission because eventually the stress would end up killing every one of you.” He said matter-of-factly and continued on to another hallway as he slid his ID through a slot and the buzzer went off again. “So, we have been working on a serum which will make you…and others…a little more obedient to your…masters if you will.” He finished explaining as we stopped at a door and he lifted the blind.
