I have been waiting for Riley to show up. To be honest, my last class ended an hour ago, but I just really want to spend some time with her. The thing that has been on my mind for a while now is how I am going to drive her home.
I mean, she can' just point on which way I have to drive. Maybe I can just use the GPS on my phone. This is a good opportunity for me to get to know her. I have been excited, but also nervous. That I might fuck up.
Something I have been very good when it comes to Riley. I think it is because I just don't really know how to treat her, but I hope I don't make her feel uncomfortable around me. It would be the last thing I wanted.
A smile creeps on my face as I see the blond girl. I step to her so she doesn't need to waste time to go to me.
"Hi." I say, she smiles as she stops.
"Hi, Drew." Riley says and fold the cane. I take that as I hint that she wants me to lead her. She places her hand on my arm as I come next to her.
"Are you ready?" I wonder and she nods.
"Yes." She answers and I start walking with her holding my arm. I ask where she lives and she gives me the address. When I get into the car I will find it on the GPS on my phone.
"Do you have any brothers or sisters?" I ask, just to have something to talk about, but also to my knowledge.
"No, I don't. What about you?" She smiles to me.
"I have a big brother, but he moved out a couple of years ago." I tell her and she nods lightly.
"Umm," I stop in as we reach the front door of the school.
"Now I feel stupid," I laugh and she watches me, I think she is confused.
"We have to go out the door." I inform her and just smiles. I am not sure how this works, what to tell her and what do to, but I just open the door and lead her out so the door won't hit her.
I am so insecure to all of this that I can feel my heart pounding in my chest.
"Drew?" She calls my name.
"Yeah?" I say as we make our way to my car.
"You need to breathe." She chuckles and I stop walking. Feeling my cheeks turn very warm.
"Why?" I ask, not completely sure what she means.
"You are shaking." She laughs softly.
"I'm sorry." I snort of myself and keep on walking down the parking lot with the sun all over my face.
"Do I make you uncomfortable?" She asks and I look at her.
"A little bit." I answer honestly and the smile on her face fades.
"Is it because I can't see?" She wonders sadly. I shake my head, even though she can't see.
"No, just," I stop walking as we reach my car.
"Scared I might do something foolish." I chuckle and the smile comes back on her face.
"You have been good until now." She says and I just have to smile even brighter of her words, but also breath out in relief.
"Let's get you into the car." I tell her and move her to the passenger seat. Then I open the door to her and watch her finding her way to where she is going to sit. Sometimes I forget that she has probably lived most of her life like this and I just feel the need to help her all the time. But sometimes I just have to remind myself that she can do it on her own.
