sid:
the situation was all too familiar. sleeping with her, then watching her sneak out of my room because she figured i'd fallen asleep. my life now replicated a g-eazy song she used to always listen to.
my body was numb and every single breath i took was one filled with the smell of the perfume she was wearing. i was so in love with that girl and i let her slip away again. just like i did when she left for school.
her hair was longer then, and lighter. she stood in the middle of the pens locker room holding a box of my things in her hands and her eyes were bloodshot from crying. i'd said things i regret to this day. i made her chose between me and her dream.
"what made you love me? what made you pick me maggie? how is it not enough to make you stay?" i argued.
"I remember seeing you there," she sniffled, "your jersey on the bench next to you and your hair was a mess from the helmet and damn it Sidney I knew right then and there I loved you. I have loved you. maybe I always will!"
"Then why are you walking away, Maggie, why are you leaving me?" i begged her for an answer.
"You got to chase your dream. now I need to chase mine."
i broke from my daze to see a post notification from her on my instagram. i slid my finger across the screen and what i saw wasn't at all what i wanted to see
@mtucky: he likes taylor swift and lets me eat the icing off his cupcakes 💓 glad to be yours tommy
maggie:
i held tom's hand between my hands and rested my head on his shoulder. last night was rough emotionally but in the end it coaxed me to commit to someone that i knew would love me unconditionally.
"how are you feeling?" he asked.
"i'm fine. just ready to crawl into bed and sleep!"
he chuckled and kissed the corner of my mouth," i think i can make that happen."
the plane landed around noon and all the guys went to eat and i went home to pack a bag for the weekend. i walked in and my roommate, Tess, was sitting criss cross on our brown leather couch.
"how was it?" she asked, not looking up from her magazine.
"it was good. tom and i are official now."
"well it's about damn time. what changed your mind?" she asked.
"uh," my voice trailed off significantly, "just something that happened in Pittsburgh. nothing to be concerned about."
she looked up and concern was written all over her face, "you saw your ex didn't you."
"yeah because he plays for the penguins but that's all."
"you sure about that?" she asked.
"yes i'm sure. nothing happened."
i went into my room and slammed the door. strung across the shelves and my bed were flower petals and twinkling lights. a note rested on my pillow next to a black velvet box.
you left something -87
i picked up the box and inside it was the penguin necklace sidney had given me years before. i had left it hanging on the knob of his dresser for a reason.
"you're sure nothing happened?" tess asked from behind me.
"i'm sure."
