I slung my backpack over my shoulders and walked into Alice's house. Grant's truck was parked in the driveway behind her car and a jeep I didn't know was on the street.

when I walked in I could hear them in the kitchen so that's where I went. when I walked in Ali and Grant stood at the counter mixing something in a bowl and next to them was something from my past.

Jason sat back to me with a backwards pirates hat on his head. I hadn't seen him in so long I was taken by surprise.

"you okay maggs?" Alice asked.

I looked at her and kinda nodded as Jason turned around. his lips formed that same manipulative smile it did the last time I saw him.

"Maggiebear," he smiled, "it's been a while."

"freshman year," I mumbled looking down at my shoes.

"guys can you give us a moment," Alice spoke up before dragging me into the foyer, "I forgot to tell you didn't I?"

"yeah thanks for the warning. I appreciate it," I scoffed.

Ali looked at me with hurtful eyes, "I'm
so sorry Maggie. if I had known I would've told you but Grant has my phone and wanted to surprise you. he thinks your seeing Jason will
spark what used to be."

"no it's fine. I understand. it's not your fault." I forgave her. she was my best friend after all and it was her birthday week.

"also you smell like man. did you work today?"

"no but I stopped by Sid's on my way here to get my bracelet. "

"bracelet huh?"

she raised an eyebrow and walked back to the kitchen with the boys. I followed after her and hugged Grant before grabbing a juice from the fridge.

I could feel Jason's eyes on me. he always did this when he came home. acted like once again I was his. as if nothing every happened between us.

"so J," Alice spoke up, "how's baseball going?"

"good. good. just ready to be drafted," he responded.

"you're getting drafted?" I asked surprised.

"wow maggs don't sound so shocked."

"don't call me that," I snapped at him. that was Sid's name for me. I don't ever recall Jason calling me Maggs.

he looked at me blankly for a moment then continued, "Pittsburgh is supposed to be picking me up. either them or Boston."

I nodded and checked my phone because it had vibrated a good twenty times in the last few minutes.

Sid: maggs

Sid: magggggieeeeee

Sid: where are you?

Sid: I need you for a date when can you get back by?

"you good?" Alice laughed. I knew I was smiling and more than likely blushing like hell as well.

I slid her my phone and she kinda chuckled before sending it back. "well go along now. don't keep him waiting."

"him?" Grant and Jason asked in unison

"yes him. she's allowed to have male friends," Alice replied.

"I will see you guys later," I smiled before leaving the house.

the drive as Sidney's was pretty short considering where Alice lived so I was there in about ten minutes. it was much busier than before so I buzzed myself in and hurried off to his place.

when I entered the elevator a sticky note with my name and an arrow pointing to the top floor was stuck above the buttons. I clicked the button and rode up to the floor. when I stepped out more arrows were on the floor. I followed each one until I reached a door.

when the door swung open, Sidney stood on the rooftop in navy blue slacks and a tight white button up.

a table sat close to the edge with a white table cloth draped over it and two plates with pasta on them.

"so uh I don't remember how this date thing works but this is my best shot," he explained.

I walked over to him and kissed the corner on his mouth. "I love it. I'm not properly dressed but I love it."

"good thing I have one more trick up my sleeve," he expanded with a sly smile.

Sid walked away for a moment then came back with a dress on a hanger. "the store you love knows your size and I knew what I wanted to see you in so we came up with this. I hope you like it."

I took the red dress from his hand and walked behind the door to change. it hugged my waist tightly but it was my correct size. the hem hit me mid thigh and was paired with a low cut neck.

I walked back out to him and his mouth dropped.

"good?"

"Maggie believe me when I say this you are the most beautiful woman I've ever met," he was in awe.

I felt my cheeks turn bright pink and smiled at him. this was perfect.
