Shego sat alone in the dark, just thinking. She had meant to tell her sister the truth eventually. But something had stopped her ... Arianna had stopped her. She had called Shego and threatened her twin brothers and her sister if she told Cassie the truth about what happened that night. Arianna had known that Shego's little siblings meant the world to her, despite how much she denied loving them. But none of that mattered now, did it? The question was how much of the truth did she really know? What had Sam told her? Shego's head lifted at the sound of a knife sliding out of its sheath.
She stood and ducked behind the couch just as 2 silhouettes entered the room. "Theo? Theodore, darling?"
That was most definitely Cassie's voice. The hall light was turned on and little Theodore Lee stepped out of the shadows and came to Cassie's side. "Yes, sister?"
Sister? Had that little boy just called Cassie his sister?
He sheathed his knife and jumped up to kiss her on the cheek. Cassie laughed and picked him up and gently stroked his hair. "Oh Theo! I missed you so much, little brother."
Theodore giggled and threw his arms around her.
"Hey, little bro." Caine said.
Theodore grinned and leapt down from his sister's arms and ran to Caine, who scooped him up into his arms and spun him around. Theodore grinned and laughed. Caine kissed the top of his baby brother's head.
"Sammy and Morgan are headed this way," he told his siblings. "Some of the Warriors finest are with them."
"What a good little brother you are, Theo." Cassie said.
He grinned, and Shego saw the cold, calculating eyes of a killer light up at the sound of his sister's approval. "Is Arianna with them?" Cassie asked.
Theodore nodded. "Yes. She is very thrilled to see you again, sister."
"She is not the only one who is excited," Cassie said.
"And what about Alina?"
"She is staying out of everything for now."
Shego stepped out from behind the couch. Her little sister's eyes widened in surprise. Caine and Theodore stepped to Cassie's side.
"Looks like I wasn't the only one who wasn't telling the truth. The 2 sisters stared each other down..
"Theodore had to remain a secret, at least for a few days until we knew the Lee kids were after him."
"Tell her, Theo."
"Sam found out that I was given to the Hayaus family as a peace offering from Lord Reon, child of the lord of Darkness. What I told you was true. I was like a little brother to the Lee kids. They did keep me locked up when they discovered where my true loyalties lie. They were going to hold me for ransom. Then you came and blew up their lair. Thanks by the way. I took a couple of wrong turns to throw them off and when I was sure they were not following me I came straight home."
Shego looked from Caine to Cassie to Theodore and back again. "Look." Theodore said.
"You don't have to trust me. But never doubt my loyalty to Cassie and Caine. Lord Hayaus gave me a home and a family to call my own. He even gave me my very own interrogation room and he lets me do what I wish with the foolish idiots who dare to cross the Kylon people."
He gently stroked the blades of the 2 knives that had suddenly appeared in his hands. "He has been more of a father to me than Lord Reon ever was. What I am trying to say is that you don't have to believe me but I love our brother and sister and I would kill to protect them."
"An there is something else you should know, Shego." Theodore said. "Alina might be staying away for now, but her lack of involvement won't last long, especially when she breaks through the Protection and concealment spells around the house."
"What is he talking about, Shego?"
Theodore smiled innocently up at his sister.
"She didn't tell you, sister? Alina marked her after she lost their little duel. It happened on the night they blew up the Lee lair."
"What kind of duel was it, Theo?"
"Kai Ree," answered Theodore quietly.
"What were the stakes, Theodore?"
"A life for a life," replied their little brother.
Shego saw her little sister's face lose all its color.
"Let me see," she said.
Shego stared into the very concerned eyes of her little sister. She knew that every villain had someone that they would do anything for and for her that someone was her little sister. She slowly lifted her right hand and showed her the slightly glowing mark on her wrist. "Blue," Caine said.
"Alina is not waiting for the others," Cassie said.
