Cora Ladris climbed carefully out the window of Cassie's bedroom and up into the nearest tree. She huddled close to the trunk of the tree and closed her eyes. She sat there for a while, just contemplating her place in the universe. Approximately 5 hours and 30 minutes ago a girl she was somewhat sure she hated saved her life. It wasn't that she was complaining and it wasn't that she wasn't grateful. She was certain that the Lee kids wouldn't find her here. She was just wondering why Cassie saved her. Was it because it was the heroic and honorable thing to do? Was it because she felt sorry for her and Shego? Would she have saved Cora if she had come seperatly? Was it because she felt the same way Cora did? Cora opened her eyes and gazed back through the window.

Cassie slept peacefully by her sister's side. Faithful, her loyal companion, slept at his master's feet. She turned her gaze back to the two sisters.

Shego had her arms wrapped protectively around her younger sister. Cassie lay nestled against Shego. A strong protection spell surrounded the bed where the sisters slept. Cora knew only an idiot would try to attack a Protector while they lay sleeping. Protectors were children sent down from Arraisia to guard the human race from harm. Unlike normal humans however, the Gods of Arraisia gave their children extraordinary powers at birth as a sign of the thrones they would one day rule. The child was adopted into one of the families of one of the human children of the Gods and was raised alongside other Kylon children. The Protectors themselves were legendary among those with abilities ... But none were as legendary as the Hayaus family. Cassie was the child of Lord Nava, King of the Kylon Gods. Cora climbed out of the tree and back into the warm bedroom. She shut the window quietly and lay back down on the floor beside the bed on the mattress that had been provided for her. She closed her eyes, remembering the stories her mother use to tell her and her siblings about the Hayaus family.

The legend was that Theodore Hayaus was responsible for creating the Kylon religion to honor his father Lord Dresia, God of healing and his mother Zedana, goddess of passion. He had fought in the war against those who wanted to destroy his people and their beliefs. The Kylon tribes had won. Theodore saw what was left of his war ravaged land and people and was devastated. He made a promise to the Kylon Gods and the human race. He swore that the Kylon people would protect the innocent and protect the human race and other magical creatures from the dark forces that sought to destroy them.

Cora felt a hand on her shoulder and jumped, startled. "It's me," Shego whispered.
"You scared the crap out of me," Cora whispered back.
"Shhh, you'll wake Cassie."
Shego stroked her little sister's hair absentmindedly as she spoke. "I thought you were asleep."
"I can't sleep. I've just been watching her rest."

"That's more than a little creepy, Shego. Besides, protection spells surround this whole house. No one is going to step foot on her porch without her knowing. And if the Lee kids even come near here she'll send them home crying or worse. Besides if they come near the Hayaus home then they're dumber than we thought."
Shego didn't say anything. Cora knew she was probably still getting use to the fact that her little sister was the child of a God. That meant her father had never been human. Her mother now lived with him in Arraisia as the Kylon Goddess of nature. Cora knew all this because she'd once been best friends with Cassie and had been there when Hego had revealed the true whereabouts of their parents to the girls.
Shego sat up in bed and looked at Cora. "So how did you two become arch enemies intent on wiping each other off the face of the earth?"
Cora grinned slightly. "My father is Lord zeeden, Lord of Chaos. Her father is the King of light. Our friendship just didn't work out."

Cassie shifted in bed and the protections tensed. Faithful, sensing her unease, rubbed his head against her. He climbed up on top of her and licked her cheek. She relaxed and so did the protection spells.
"It wasn't that I did not want to remain friends with her, it was just that I couldn't. I knew our fathers would pit us against each other one day and my dad would kill me if I didn't kill her. Not killing her would be a sign of weakness in my father's eyes. So I ended our friendship."

Shego's features were impassive. "Could you kill her now?"
"Honestly, no. I ... Respect her too much.

Cora wasn't lying. She did respect Cassie a lot. She loved fighting her arch enemy. She always got a huge adrenalin rush when they fought. But Cora also had a crush on Cassie. She dreamed about her almost every night. But she would not tell Shego this. She could not tell Shego this. Because if she did, odds were that Shego would tell Cassie.
"Glad to here you don't want to kill my sister," Shego said.
Cora pulled the blanket up around her and lay back down.
"Going to try and get some sleep," She told Shego.
"Goodnight."
"Goodnight."

Cora closed her eyes and drifted off to sleep. Her dreams were filled with happy times she wished she could have with Cassie.
