Cay was devastated when she realized that she wasn't going to hear from Marco or Jules. In the space of one night, she'd lost the two people that had meant the world to her and she just wanted to die. She'd never felt that kind of pain.
She'd been crying for two solid weeks and was barely eating anything, she couldn't. Every time she put anything near her mouth, she would get violently ill and throw up, even with nothing to throw up, her stomach would dry heave, putting her body in extreme pain.
She was about to climb back into bed when there was a harsh knocking on her door. Was it Marco? God please let it be she silently prayed as she swung open the door. It wasn't Marco, but the next best thing. It was Jules but she didn't look happy at all, in fact she looked like she wanted to kill her.
Cay didn't miss the sideways glance she got when Jules took in her appearance. "Jules what are..." Cay didn't get to finish before Jules slapped her. Cay just blinked quickly and brought her hand up to her cheek.
"How could you do that to Marco?" She asked heatedly as Cay looked at her in confusion. "Jules what are you talking about? Marco is the one who cut off all contact with me" the girl told her friend wearily. "What are you talking about? Explain" she demanded coldly.
So Cay told her everything, about Stefano waking her up, the story he'd given her, the note she'd written to Marco, everything. She started wondering if Marco had even gotten her note.
"Cayanne are you lying to me?" Jules asked. "Jules I don't make it a habit of lying to those I care about. I love you and I was starting to feel something for your brother. I just thought since I'd given him my virginity, that he'd gotten what he wanted and no longer wanted anything to do with me."
Cay was sobbing again but this time Jules stepped to her and embraced her. "I'm so sorry Cay. Something must have happened to your note. I will talk to Marco." But Cay shook her head no.
"If he'd wanted to see me, he would have gotten a hold of me. He knows where I live and where I work. I just don't know what to do. I'm so hurt, I just don't want to live anymore" she cried.
Jules stayed with her the rest of the day and into the evening, getting her to take a bath and eat a little something. She told Cay she was worried about how much weight she'd lost and made her promise to stop starving herself.
Cay tried to fulfill her promise to Jules, but right now everything just seemed impossible. "Do you want me to stay the night with you? Nono won't mind" Jules said.
"You mean he doesn't think me as awful, that I used his grandson?" Cay still sounded distraught as Jules shook her head. "He does not. He feels you and Marco should work it out. He thought you were really good for Marco and so do I" she finished.
"Thought as in past tense?" Cay asked, feeling more tired by the moment. "No Cay. I still think that way. He looked really happy when he was with you. Something has happened or something was done and I will find out what it was, no matter how long it takes" she said trying to reassure her friend.
"Jules, thank you for believing me" Cay said softly, her eyes feeling so very heavy as sleep finally consumed her. The last thing she remembered laying her head on Jules' shoulder and then she was out.
With Jules help, Cay slowly returned to herself, almost that is, because when she smiled, it didn't reach her eyes anymore, but she was trying, really. Some days she would get through the day without thinking about Marco and other days, he was all she thought about.
It had been a total of seven weeks since she'd seen or heard from Marco but at least she still had Jules and Cay had even visited Jules at her home a couple of times, deep down hoping to catch Marco there but each time she was told he was abroad.
Jules had just started back to college, their fall break over, so Cay was back to seeing her in the late afternoons when she'd come into the coffee shop with her same group of friends, to do their homework and then she'd give her a ride home.
Cay rolled over to the chiming of her phone alarm but before her feet could even hit the floor, her stomach churned and she tasted a metallic taste in her mouth making her throw up. Luckily she had a trash can by her bed and was able to avoid a mess.
She called into work, saying she was sick, which was the truth but Cay thought it was more than that and pulled herself from bed and prepared to go out.
Stepping inside her local pharmacy, she purchased three pregnancy tests, paid for them and returned home. As the reality of what was happening set in, Cay realized that neither her nor Marco had used protection that night.
Oh God how could she have been so irresponsible? She silently cursed her stupidity as she set the timer for the first test. After waiting what seemed to be an eternity, the timer went off for the first test.
POSITIVE. Oh sweet Jesus! Cay took the other test and then the last one, the all had the same result...she was pregnant with Marco's child. She was going to be a mom. She sank to the bathroom floor as the gravity of the situation hit her full force.
She must have sat there all day, because when she finally got up, it was starting to get dark but that didn't stop her from pulling on a hoodie and her shoes and just started walking.
Her feet took her to the DeLuca mansion and before Cay knew what she was doing, she rang the speaker box and a very familiar voice came over. Not the man she wanted to talk to but he seemed to be everywhere.
"Stefano, please. I need to speak to Marco. I wouldn't be here if it wasn't important." She went there for an entire week, saying the same thing, to Stefano, and getting the same response. "He's out of the country. I will give him your message." She knew he wouldn't.
Finally, she gave up after a week and decided it was time to return Jules' phone call. She hadn't bothered her in an entire week, telling her to call if she needed her. She did.
When Cay heard the knock on the door, she called out weakly "Come in." Jules gasped when she saw the state her friend was in. Walking quickly to her, she gathered her in her arms. "Oh Cay, what's wrong honey? You've got me so scared."
Sobbing hysterically, Cay said "I'm pregnant."
