xviii: the final chapter part ii

hyungwon blinked slowly as he woke.

he was standing, facing a long hallway in the lab.

there was no one to be seen.

so he began to run.

all of his strength had been returned, his cheeks now filled with red and his body no longer bony and weak.

as he turned the corner his friends appeared before him.

jooheon, changkyun, hyunwoo, minhyuk, kihyun, and hoseok, his beautiful hoseok.

they beamed as they dashed towards two large doors.

hyungwon grinned as he followed them through, letting a laugh of pure glee escape his lips.

he fell through the doors tripping over his own feet.

everyone had suddenly vanished. everything that surrounded hyungwon was completely white.

"hyung?"

hyungwon slowly turned around to meet eyes with someone he had never expected to see again.

"this isn't possible."

jin smiled smoothing the silky white dress he was clothed in, "i really didn't expect you to show up this fast."

"what do you mean?"

"jinnn!"

namjoon sprinted over grinning from ear to ear.

"oh hello hyungwon-hyung."

"is this heaven?"

"if you want to call it that, i think it's more like a dreamworld," jin smiled.

"hyungwon?"

"jeongyeon?" hyungwon stood up.

"i'm sorry i couldn't protect them."

"you did everything you could, thank you."

"i'm sorry," she smiled weakly.

hyungwon dropped back down to his knees staring at his brother.

"i still can't believe i'm seeing you."

the tall boy wrapped his arms around his brother feeling incredibly content.

"hyungwon."

hyungwon released his brother and twisted around.

hoseok stood front and centre surrounded by their friends.

"hoseok, are you?"

"the machine broke, the radiation killed everyone still in the building."

there was a moment of silence as he stared at all of the boy's faces, every single one of them, was dead.

"i love you," hyungwon said finally not being able to take his eyes off of the older boy.

hoseok ran over and gathered all of hyungwon in his arms.

"i'm so sorry, i'm so sorry i couldn't save you, i'm sorry," hoseok cried into his shoulder.

hyungwon smiled and nudged the boy forward.

he pressed his palms onto his cheeks.

"i love you," he repeated a single tear slipping down his cheek as he pulled hoseok into a kiss.

the kiss was filled with so much passion that it filled the air, and everyone around them felt it too.

"god i wish i could kiss you forever," hoseok smiled as the broke apart.

hyungwon smiled bashfully.

"i love you so much," hoseok sighed pushing away stray locks of hyungwon's hair.

"i'm so happy right now."

"i'm so glad."

hyungwon grinned, the the most radiant grin anyone had ever seen him have.

he felt strong, cheerful, healthy. no one was there to hurt him or his family, no one was there to look down on him, and in the first time in hyungwon's life he felt truly, genuinely, and completely,  happy.

"hoseok?"

"yes beautiful."

"this means that i get to be by your side forever now, right?"

"of course."

"promise?"

"promise."
