Happy Halloween!

(Mitch POV)

"Papa, come look at us!" Scott called from Lily's bedroom where he had just finished getting the toddler ready.

I followed the sound of his voice and pushed open the door to find two orange and white blobs in the middle of the room beaming at me.

I stepped further into the room and picked up my daughter. "You look adorable, Lily."

"No, papa. Nemo," she corrected.

"Oh sorry. You look adorable, Nemo," I amended with a little giggle.

"What about me?" Scott huffed.

"You look adorable too, daddy," I placated, patting the head of his 'Marlin' costume as it covered his chest.

"Thanks, Mitchy.  Where's my Dory?"

"I'm just going to get changed and then we can go."

I flung on my 'Dory' costume and met my little clown fish in the living room. Being the typical mom I was I just had to get pictures of this moment. It was the first year we did family costumes and the first Halloween Lily was going to get to really experience. The first two we just spent in the house, watching movies like any other night except she was wearing a Halloween themed onesie. This year, though, we were taking the 2 and a half year old to a little "farm" that was putting on a child friendly Halloween event. I imagined lots of cheery scarecrows and adorable fake spiders but it would be perfect for the toddler.

"Okay, daddy and Nemo, please." I ushered the pair over to the fireplace, my prime spot for cheesy family photo ops and snapped a couple of pictures. Scott and I switched positions before taking a group shot using the timer feature. "That's us done. You ready to go, peanut?"

"No, papa. Nemo," Lily almost yelled, tiny fiats clenched at her sides.

"Oh, I'm so sorry, I keep doing that. Are you ready to go, Nemo?" I giggled and started to take the main part of her costume off. It was big and bulky and there was no way that she'd fit in her car seat wearing it.

Scott and I stripped the fish off our bodies as well. Driving would be difficult and the idea of sitting in these costumes for the two hours it would take to get to the farm was not pleasant. With Scott and Lily in their all orange underclothes and me in my blue, we looked quite the picture.

"Okay, let's go."

"Let go!" Lily cheered and toddled over to the door, standing on her tiptoes to try and reach the handle. Thank god we had a few more inches before we had to worry about her trying to make an escape when weren't looking.

We made it to the farm in just over 2 hours and Lily was restless and anxious to get out of her restraints.  Scott freed her and put on the rest of her costume before we slipped into ours.  When we were ready to go, I took one of Lily's hands in mine whilst Scott took the other.

"Are you gonna be scared, Nemo?" Scott asked, making sure to use the correct name.  He always was better at playing along with her imagination.

"No," she spoke loudly, full of confidence.

"Are you sure?  There's gonna be lots of scary monsters," Scott teased, shaking her arm a little bit.
