As I open the door, the smell of coffee filled the air. A female waitress around my age greets me with a smile from behind the counter.

I didn't know her name but I do know she goes to my old high school. I hope we could become friends someday, she seemed like a really nice person.

The cafe was unusually packed for a Monday morning. I looked around for an open table, that's when I saw Mayu sitting alone by the corner.

I started to walk over to her, she looked up from her phone and waved her arms. I laughed a little to myself. Mayu is a weirdo but I love her anyway, she gets me and I get her.

Before I have a chance to sit down she hugs me tightly.

"THANK GOD you're ok, I was so worried about you."

I decide to let her have a little moment, she may be weird but she really cares about me. I pulled away from the hug and sat down.

"Hey Akemi...." I look over at Mayu who is making a weird smile, like she knew something I didn't.

"I know I'm going to regret asking this but what?"

"I dare you to turn around." She snickered evilly.

I slowly turned around, sitting at the table behind us was him. I quickly turned around blushing.

"Akemi has a cruuush" Mayu teased me.

"Shhh, what if he hears you." It's not my fault I liked him.

His name is Ken Kaneki, we've been in the same english class for a month now, but I've never had the courage to say anything to him.

Knowing me I'd probably mess it up...

"Akemi you have got to stop being so nervous around him, you never know when another girl will ask him out." I put my head down on the table.

"Yeah I know"

"Hey you know what, I'm actually in the same homeroom as his friend..." I lift my head up.

"What are you getting at?" I ask half-knowing what she is up to.

"If you want I could see if he feels the same way about you"

"Really!?, you would do that for me?"

"Of course you're my best friend and best friends help each other plus I said I would return the favour you did for me a while back."

Flashback

I was at Mayu's house for a sleepover we were both 12 at the time.

I got up to get a drink of water and that's when I heard weird noises coming from Mayu's adopted younger sister's room. I quietly knocked on the door.

"Kanade is everything okay?" I asked while slowly opening the door, that's when I saw them two black eyes with red pupils staring back at me.

I was about to scream, thinking a ghoul had attacked her.

When I heard Kanade start to cry. I walked over to her and hugged her until she stopped.

"You won't tell those mean people will you?" Kanade looked up at me her eyes were back to normal. I wiped away her tears.

"It's ok, your secret is safe with me" I replied with a gentle smile.

Flashback end

I checked my phone for the time

7:42

"Sorry Mayu I gotta leave my class will be starting soon."

I wished I could stay and chat but unfortunately our free class isn't at the same time.

I get up from the table to leave and I bumped into Kaneki causing me to drop my sketchbook. It fell to the ground and opened.

"S-sorry I wasn't watching where I was going" I said slightly blushing.

"It's okay" he said with a small smile. He noticed I dropped my sketchbook and bent down to pick it up.

"Wow you're really good at drawing." He said handing the book back to me.

"Thanks" I said blushing a lot more.

Okay Akemi you can do this don't be shy.

"I don't want to seem creepy or anything but since we have the same english class, maybe we could walk to Kamii together?" I could feel my cheeks getting warmer as I nervously waited for his answer.

"Sure, I think that would be nice." He replied, his cheeks the slightest shade of pink. We left the cafe and headed towards the University.

I was happy that I managed to talk to him, now all I had to do was ask him out, it would take some time, but I knew I could do it
