Chapter 4

Everyday after school I kept going to the hospital to check on Kaneki but it was the same old thing. I kept getting turned away. Days went by until I finally saw him at school. I managed to get there 10 minutes before homeroom started.

"Kaneki!" I called his name.

"Hey Akemi" he called back waving to me. As I approached him I saw he had an eyepatch on his left eye. I hope he didn't get seriously injured when I last saw him. I thought to myself. If I was going to bring it up I should do it cautiously.

"Hey, Kaneki about that night when you said you would meet me in the park" Kaneki gave me this look like all the memories came flooding back to him.

"Are you okay?" I asked a hint of worry in my voice. Kaneki looked down at the ground.

"Y-yeah I'm fine, I gotta go" he said before running off. Something was off about Kaneki. Maybe he was trying to forget about what had happened and I just made him remember. Hopefully it isn't more serious than that

~~~~Time Skip To Lunch~~~~~~~~

I found Kaneki sitting alone behind the school and I sat beside him.

"Hey Akemi...I'm sorry about earlier I guess I wasn't feeling myself." Kaneki said. I smiled at him.

"Hey it's no big deal everyone has their off days." I noticed that he didn't have a lunch.

"Did you forget your lunch at home?" I asked. Kaneki looked at me rubbing the back of his neck.

"Yeah, something like that." He answered. I took my sandwich out of my lunchbag.

"You can have half of it if you want." I offered him. Kaneki put his hands up infront of him.

"No it's okay you don't have to do that, I'll just get something from the bakery during my free class." I nodded and put the sandwich back. I stared up at the sky trying to imagine if that accident didn't happen how our little meetup in the park would have went.

Kaneki sat on the bench waiting for me. I walked up to him and he got up and took my hands.

"Akemi I want to be honest with you." He looked into my sparkling eyes.

"I like you Akemi and I was hoping we could be boyfriend and girlfriend."

Just the thought of this happening made me blush. I hid my face in my hands hoping Kaneki won't notice. But by doing that it just drew attention to me.

"Is everything alright Akemi?" He asked. I nodded still covering my pink cheeks. Little did I know Mayu was watching from the corner.

"Akemi and Kaneki sitting in a tree K-I-S-S-I-N-G." I blushed even more and hugged my knees putting my face into them. I glanced over at Kaneki who was blushing too. Does he like me too? I wondered.
