idk what happened i just haven't been inspired to write fics like before

well anyways i found this in my notes so why not dump it here

the crew gotten hotel rooms for once- mostly for the privacy. tyler hadn't been able to really talk with josh in a while due to the festivals they were doing and cramming into a van with multiple others each night wasn't the best place for conversation.

"i just.. i don't know, josh. i don't get these- feelings- for anyone very often. but when i do, i manage to do everything right but they already have someone. it all seems good and perfect and i feel like we're getting somewhere but then they mention their boyfriend or girlfriend and.. my heart drops. but i have to pretend that never happened, because we're still just friends. and things change. i really like these people and just before i think things are getting along it all crashes down and i can't bring myself to hit send, no matter how simple the text. then it ends. because i'm unresponsive, and we're just friends. i don't get it, why does this happen every single time?"

"listen, it's just bad luck. it's nothing that you can control, but you need to know that there's still lots of people that care about you so much, including those friend-crushes. and.. your family and your friends. just.. not all of us are really that great at showing it. i guess. that includes me. not really sure where i was going with this, but know people still care about you, romantically or not. and one day, you'll find that one who likes you too... one day."
josh let out a long sigh.

tyler simply rolled towards josh in the hotel room bed, laying his head on his chest and hugging the older boy as tight as possible.
"you know.. there's actually one person i like right now. but they're not taken for once. and i know he- i mean- they.. care about me and they're here for me but the situation's a little complicated and it's never gonna work." tyler's voice had faltered when he let the 'he' slip out. luckily, josh had no response, which was good- no unnecessary attention, whether it be positive or negative.

josh wrapped his arms around tyler, looking at how endearing he looked in the angled light that was shining from the moon and the city lights from across the room.
"ty, you never know that. i'm in the same situation as you right now, actually. and i think that it definitely could work out. you just need to tell him how you feel- or if you're worried about the sexuality part then just ask him. i'm sure he won't mind."

"well, um, i-" tyler was interrupted by a kiss on the forehead from the older boy. "ithinkilikeyou," tyler whispered in a rush, squeezing his eyes closed and tensing up underneath josh's arms. a moment passed, neither of the two moving, which seemed like forever. tyler started to shift away, mumbling that he should've never said anything. just as he was about to lift himself up to leave the bed, josh grabbed tyler's arm and sat up in front of him.

"tyler, look me in the eyes."

the younger continued to stare down at the duvet that was between the two.

"hey," josh said in the softest voice possible, lifting tyler's chin up to force eye contact between the two. tyler's eyes were red and puffy, tears threatening to spill over. they were held wide open with fear and sadness like josh had never seen before. josh's eyes, however, showed enough care and love that tyler felt as if he didn't need to get away and maybe josh could actually help. josh's hand still was on tyler's chin, and he slowly moved it up his jaw, cupping his face, before wiping a tear that had escaped. tyler closed his eyes and he knew what was going to happen, although it seemed unreal and distant. josh inched a bit closer to the boy and rested his forehead on tyler's.

"tyler?" josh asked.
"y..yeah?" he responded in a small voice.
"i love you."

this phrase had had its fair share between the two, but with what tyler had confessed and with their foreheads together, faces only inches apart, it was something entirely different. tyler found himself frozen once again, and his stomach dropped heavily. he tried to form words to respond with, but all that he could form was a shaky, deep breath. instead he opened his eyes again, looking up at josh to meet his loving gaze once again.

neither of the two were sure who'd closed the distance or when their eyes ended up being shut, but two pairs of lips found themselves together and nothing else mattered. it was soft and gentle, yet more than either of them could ask for. time stopped, nothing being registered but the feel of each others lips and hands and the electric feelings in their own bodies. the weight in tyler's stomach as well as all the butterflies he hadn't realized built up were all released and replaced with an electric feeling of wholeness and love and josh.

after what seemed like an eternity of a high, the two boys parted and made quick eye contact, tyler slowly looking down again after a few seconds. he was still processing what this all meant- someone finally loved him back- and fiddling with his fingers because he didn't know what else to do. his mind repeated these events over and over in no particular order until it came back to josh's "i love you." he didn't want to leave it at that, so tyler broke the silence with a soft whisper of an "i love you too." josh smiled at that and tyler returned it, then deciding to pull him into a hug and nudging josh back, beckoning for them to lay down. they both lay there, eyes on the quiet television that they didn't realize was still on. tyler's head was on the older boy's chest, listening to the heartbeat that was just as fast as his own still. nevertheless, with firm arms around him, tyler slipped into unconsciousness as did josh into the most peaceful sleep that either of them had had since they were kids.
