Chapter 2: Sorry

3 long days later

Toni walked into the building of where she worked and greeted people that passed by her as she walked towards her office. As soon as she stepped into her office and threw herself on her chair, she let out a heavy sigh.

Her co-worker Halle barged into her office without knocking, causing Toni to roll her eyes annoyed at her presence.

"What do you want?" Toni spat with venom.

"The guy that has been promoted is in the boardroom and we're waiting for you... so can you hurry up we don't have all day." Halle said rolling her eyes and walking out of her office.

"Bitch." Toni mumbled as she stood up and walked towards the boardroom, but before she could get to the board room her boss Eddie Davenport stopped her.

"Yes Mr Davenport?" Toni asked with a smile.

"You look beautiful as always." He said being his usual flirtatious self.

"Thank you." She said giving him a smile as she quickly made her way to the boardroom. As soon as she walked in she looked at Kenneth with so much hatred.

"Why is he here?" She asked turning to her co-workers that were all seated.

"He is the guy that has been promoted. He's one of the best." One of her co-workers praised Kenneth.

"And his fine too." The other one added.

"His going to be working with you. His going to be your partner, Toni." Mr Davenport said as Toni's smile dropped. This was definitely the worst day ever.

"Halle could you show him to the office next to Toni's. Welcome to Davenport housing agency." Mr Davenport said shaking Kenneth's hand.

"Thank you." Kenneth said smiling as everyone emptied out the boardroom.

"Eddie." Toni said smiling making sure no one was in the boardroom and walked towards him.

"Why does he have to work with me. Couldn't he work with Halle, you know I like doing things on my own." She said trying to butter Mr Davenport up.

"You and him have the same traits so you'll work well together. Trust me." Mr Davenport said patting her shoulder and walking out of the boardroom.

"I need a drink." Toni mumbled walking back to her office and rolling her eyes at the sight of Halle and Kenneth.

"God she makes me sick." Toni mumbled slamming her office donor shut.

Tamar, Kailee and their mother Evelyn walked into Victoria secrets together.

"Do you know Toni puts money on my credit card every week." Kailee said to Tamar while looking at matching bra's and underwear.

"And not just a few dollars, I literally get 700 dollars every single week." Kailee added.

"No. She puts money on mine every month." Tamar said looking at Kailee as their mother busied herslef trying not be in their conversation.

"I have to ask you something. I've been thinking about it for awhile now." Kailee said looking in deep thought.

"What is it?" Their mother Evelyn asked with worry.

"Why does Toni like me so much?" Kailee asked Tamar and her mother as they looked at her.

"Well she cares for you, because you're the youngest." Tamar said nonchanlty as their mother still looked at her.

"I know, but we aren't really that close you know so why would she really care about me that much?" Kailee asked perplexed on why Toni cares for her so much.

"You are the youngest as Tamar said and trust me Kai you and Toni are more connected and closer you just don't understand it yet and you don't see it... but soon you will." Their mother Evelyn said kissing her daughter's forehead and pulling her in a hug.

"See I told you she's just looking out for you." Tamar said giving Kailee a reassuring smile.

"One would think that she would put more money in your account like every week, due to you guys being so close." Kailee added.

"You've always been her favorite. Because she always asks about how your doing when me and her are together." Tamar said.

"Toni can I talk to you?" Kenneth asked just walking into Toni's office as she busied herself with work on her MacBook.

"No. I'm busy." Toni simply said not bothering to look up because she knew it was him just by the smell of his cologne, he still smelt the same, it would hurt her more to look at him.

"Why are you being so hostile? I just want to talk to you." He pleaded as Toni rolled her eyes and looked at him.

He walked towards her glass rectangle shaped desk that was full of pictures of her sister's but there was only one picture of Towanda which was where she graduated and she and Toni stood together. Her looked at all the pictures she had of Kailee and could really see the resemblance between the two, they looked more alike.

Kenneth shut her MacBook and walked closer to her as she sat unbothered on her chair.

"Kenneth drop the bullshit act and get out of my office. I have work to do." She said trying hard not to cry she promised herself she was not going to cry and she definitely wasn't going to cry in front of him out of all people.

"What's this bullshit act Toni?!" He asked exclaiming as she looked at him with so much hatred.

"You left me! You left me all by myself and all you said was bye! You didn't have the decency to tell me that you were leaving and coming back after 22 long fucking years Kenneth!" Toni yelled as the tears streamed down her face but she quickly wiped them away.

Kenneth tried to hug her but she pushed him away from her. He felt bad, he should've said goodbye forever but he couldn't bring himself  to do that to the love of his life.

"I'm sorry Toni I really am I just didn't know how to tell you that my parents decided to move." He said looking away from her sincerely as she looked at him.

She was angry that he had such a pathetic excuse and then he comes back 22 years later married to her sister with a daughter.

"You can save that pathetic excuse for someone who cares. Right now you're wasting my time and I need to finish my work, so go to your office and think of what you've put me through and see then if maybe I'll accept your pathetic apology and excuse." Toni said leading him to the door, he looked back at her and slowly carresed her tear stained cheek.

"I didn't mean to cause you all of that pain and I'm truly sorry. Things were never suppose to turn out like this. Trust me." He said as she looked away from him.

She shut her door and locked it she let out a heavy sigh and walked back to her desk. This was only the beginning of the rollercoaster of emotions that she was going to experience dealing with Kenneth Brian Edmonds.
