“I mean… like… yeah… of course… Hey! I’m empty!” I concluded, the drink clearly going to my head.

I was laid across Zayn’s double bed, with my head laying in Louis’ lap. I swished my glass around in the air, hoping for a refill.

“We’ll have to get some more in a bit, I’m almost out over here” stated Harry. He popped himself off the other bed and brought towards me a small bottle of Chardonnay.

“For my lady.” He clucked, as he poured me a generous glass.

“Thank you dear!” I winked, as I lay back down.

“Wow guys, have sex already.” Laughed Louis, clearly amused by his joke.

I could feel the jiggling of his body against my head as he laughed, it wasn’t doing too well as I tried to suckle down my wine. I groaned slightly, but to my disdain he didn’t notice.

Harry sat abruptly down beside me and began playfully rubbing my leg, whilst making creepy advancing faces towards me. The room immediately broke into laughter at his seductive techniques.

“Alright! Whose go was it next?” Niall asked, there was a tone of annoyance in his voice – which was obvious to everyone in the room as they immediately calmed down.

“It was yours Niall.” Zayn replied casually.

“I’ll ask one then!” Harry shouted, as he jumped off the bed in excitement.

“Alright Harry, calm down” giggled Liam.

Harry pointed his lanky index finger towards Niall before continuing.

“You…” He began, “My lovely friend… Do you... Hmm...” He brought his hand to his chin, and began stroking his non-existent beard. The drink was also getting to him it appeared. “AH!” Finally, I thought to myself. “Do you have feeling for our lovely Isobel here?” Shit.

He turned to me and kissed his lips, before sitting himself down again. He had a pleased look on his face, whereas the rest of the room had their mouths open, mentally preparing themselves for the answer.

I bit my lip nervously, what would he say? From the corner of my eye, I could see the four other boys look from Niall to me, then back again.

After what seemed like an eternity, he finally spoke. I never thought I’d be so scared of an answer so stupid, I was acting childish – yet I couldn’t help it.

“What do you mean? I-er-I’m-well…” He stuttered, “Of course not, man. Don’t be stupid!” He broke into a laughter, there was a hint of something in it but I couldn’t decipher it.

Right there, my heart dropped into the pit of my stomach and I knew I wouldn’t be able to clutch it back. It didn’t matter that I always knew the truth, I couldn’t help but have that glimmer of hope that lay at the end of the tunnel. I felt as if I had been climbing out of a well that I’d been down for so long and as I got to the top, I’d slipped dramatically and fallen right back down to where I belonged. I felt as if I wasn’t worthy of the brightness that lay outside of the well and it just felt like the story of my life.

The room was an eerie quietness, it was if they knew how I felt right in that moment. I gazed towards a sullen looking Harry, he head was slinked down and he wouldn’t meet my eye.

“I think we need more drinks.” Louis announced as he propped himself up. I moved away from his lap, sat up and nodded.

“I-I’ll stay here.” I said quietly.

“I’ll stay with you.” Zayn nodded, a small smile on his face.

Without any word, the rest of the boys headed towards the door.

As they left, Zayn came from where he was sat and slunk beside me. He carefully wrapped an arm around me and pulled me closer. I snuggled into his chest and instantly felt caressed by his warmth.

“It’s okay.” He whispered.

“I-I don’t know what I was expecting… I guess…” I gulped.

“Look at me.” He gently pressed a hand under my chin and pushed my face upwards so that we were staring straight at each other. “Don’t expect much from Niall, okay? That’s just how he his. He’s a hard, strange boy as lovely as he is. He doesn’t know a good thing if it hits him right in the face.”

“T-thanks.” I answered, completely unsure of what he was saying.

“You need to believe me. You are such a beautiful girl. You have the most amazing personality and any guy would be lucky to have you, especially any of the five of us. You are brilliant, anytime something goes wrong you just pick yourself back up.”

I didn’t believe anything of what he said, but I still couldn’t help but feel embraced into a strange aroma involving him.

I felt him edge closer and I immediately did the same.

“There’s just something about you, the way you act. You really are something special and…” Before he could finish his own sentence he pressed closer to me and gently caressed his own lips against mine.

“Wow.”

“Well that was unexpected.”

We immediately pushed away from each other. The shocked look on both our faces obviously said that we hadn’t even heard anyone come in.

What had even just happened? Since when had I had feelings for Zayn?

The four boys were stood staring at us with jaws to the ground as they held bottles of wine in their hands. I flicked my eyes towards a sullen Niall, who quickly turned on his heel and left the room.
