The door was still wide open and I took my chance to leave, no one would even notice. I wasn’t exactly sure where I was going, considering I didn’t know the area well. I began to get angry at myself that I didn’t pay enough attention whilst the Taxi driver was on his way here. I guess he was right; a girl like me shouldn’t be in a place like this.

I decided to turn left; I seemed to remember that’s where the taxi came from. I was surrounded by large houses, probably owned by a lot of rich and famous people I knew of. I began to wander aimlessly, in a hope of recognising somewhere. I noticed I wasn’t getting very far walking at a snail’s pace when my mobile began to ring loudly from my handbag. I turned around and could still see the house, but at a distance.

I produced my mobile from my bag and checked out the number calling me. It was Niall. My heart began pulsing out of my chest as I suddenly became very nervous about the call. I answered it almost immediately.

Where are you? Damien said he saw you running off and he doesn’t know why.” He seemed worried and it made me smile.

“Umm, I’m...” I looked around to see where I was “just down the road…” I finished.

I’ll come find you then. I haven’t seen you in a while and you leave straight away, unfair! Promise me you’ll come back to the party with me?”

“Okay, turn to your left when you come out. I’ll talk about it with you.” I felt so mature talking like that. I didn’t give in straight away and I loved it, even if my head was telling me to give in and run to him.

I leant against a nearby wall, with my new found confidence. Although, at the back of my mind I couldn’t help but worry that two large dogs were about to be set on me for just leaning against a wall. I waited patiently for Niall to come in search of me. While I was waiting, I wiped gently under my eyes, in case my mascara had dripped down along my face. I didn’t want Niall to know I had been crying.

After several minutes, I heard a padding of feet along the concrete. I was met by a tired-looking Niall. When he found me, he stopped abruptly and a smile spread across his face.

“You didn’t make that very easy! I thought I’d gone wrong way! I was expecting to actually be able to see you!” He shouted jokingly.

He suddenly moved closer to me and pulled me in for a hug. I was taken-aback by what he was doing as he squeezed me tightly. I inhaled his sweet, masculine scent. He smelled strongly of deodorant, but it was a beautiful smell all the same, scents of citrus, lemon and orange bounced around in my nostrils. I couldn’t help but want to hold him tighter, but I knew I had to keep up my act of being a strong woman.

“Are you okay? As soon as Damien told me about you suddenly running off, I became so worried. I know we haven’t known each other for very long, but I consider you to be a good friend already.” He caressed me with his voice.

I couldn’t help but feel overwhelmed by him calling me a good friend, much to the disbelief of Damien. I suddenly felt a lot better about everything.

“I’m fine. Something just happened that I don’t feel comfortable talking about. I’m over it now though.” I sighed. I knew if I told him the truth he probably wouldn’t believe me. Damien was a very good friend of his and I knew he could easily convince him that I was in the wrong.

“That’s really good. Will you come back to the party with me? If you like we can just talk in another room if you don’t feel like hanging around in a big group.” He said.

“Okay, I’ll do that then. Let’s go.” So much for me being an independant woman.

Niall motioned me to follow him as he turned away and began to walk in the same direction he came. I followed meekly behind him, cautious of what would happen when I returned to the party.
