"Why are we here?  Why are we going through the time line of your lives?" I asked both my mother and grandmother.
"Because there's many things you don't understand that we've never got to tell you-
"Marie!! Geez at least give a bitch a warning!" We were now in a dorm like apartment and my mom had on her jogging outfit and her hair was pulled back into a ponytail.
"Girl I didn't know you would've been home so early" in came the woman that I knew I had a connection with but forgot how. Her hair was a mess as she pulled down her shirt and pulled up her sweats.
"Whatever I hope you disinfect that kitchen counter,  nasty ass" my mom replied as she shook her head at her friend.
"My bad Jo" the red head man cane into the room and my mom laughed. "It's fine I've seen you guys naked at least 5 times the last week I'm immune to it" my mom said laughing. "Keep fucking like that and you'll end up with a baby..."
Somehow we ended up in my kindergarten class. My first day.
"Okay class, were going to introduce ourselves. Just say your name and your favorite color" the teacher said.
"Aww baby look at you, could tell yo grandmoms dressed you" my mom said as 6-year-old Joy
smoothed down her big pink t-shirt, and itched her head, which my hair was in a ponytail, thanks to my grandma.

"HEY GUYS!!!" The girl next to me yelled."My name is Faith, AAANNNNDDD my fav-our-ite coooloooor iiiiisssssss...." she taping her chin.

"Baby blue and pink" she said smiling.
"Nice to meet you Faith. Okay, last but not least..." my teacher said talking about me.
I actually remembered this moment. My first time publicly speaking to the class.  I remembered closing my eyes, and pretending to talk to my grandma. "My name is Joy... and um.... I don't really have a favorite color. I like all colors"
"I was smiling when you did it by yourself... I was right next to you that day" my mother said as she smiled.
"Yeah it was the best day I've had without my grandma... no offense" and my grandmother held up her hands in response. "But why are we here. We were just in your dor-"

"Sit next to me" that girl, Faith said, as she grabbed my hand and lead me to a table. "You're weird. But I LIKE it!" she said.
"um, thanks? I don't know how to take that honestly" I said and she just looked at me. "It Meeeeaaans you're going to be my best friend forever" and she laughed and pulled out two juice boxes out her lunch bag. "Rule number one of being a friend: when I eat, you eat too... unless it gets us in trouble" and she started drinking her juice box. "You're crazy!" I laughed and I started drinking my own also.

"Hi Mr. Eric" I  said shyly , a more recent time. Me and Faith remained friends and it was the same man from the other flashback. "Joy! Oh my god look at you, I didn't even recognize you" the man said hugging me back.
"Wait mom,  you knew them?  You knew Faith's parents?" I asked now putting everything together.
She smiled. "I told you I was with you that first day. I may have interfered with your friendship just a tad bit but... it was worth it" she shrugged and I looked at Ms. Marie coming down the stairs and staring at me with a look I always see her have with me. A look of sad familiarization.
"She knew, didn't she?"  I asked both my grandmother and mom.
"From the time she saw me pick you up" my grandma said.
The image then changed back to my mom and Troy, in the doctor's office.

"What you mean a divorce?!" I watched as my mother looked at my father in disbelief.
"D-I-V-O-R-C-E. Divorce. A split. Break-up. Don't wanna be with you anymore. What you need a dictionary?"
"Wait, what? Mom, you were leaving him?" My mom looked at me and shook her head yes. "I have been through a lot with your father  he used to hit me, abuse me, cheated on me. I still loved him, but I loved myself more to know that that I wanted and deserved better."
I continued to watch.  "Don't be grabbing up on me" My mom yelled as Troy tried to grab up my then pregnant mother. "Trying to put fear in my heart, Troy you ain't SHIT! You forgot about who my mother and Grandmother is, boy I'll kill you. Don't make me-"
"Mr. And Mrs. Springs?" The doctor came in wearing her white doctor's coat and her hair was up in a professional bun.
"Don't know why you ain't killed his ass for real" Grandma said as my mom rolled her eyes. "I'm pretty sure she didn't really mean it-"
"No I meant it" my mom said, smiling at my grandmother. "Your great-grandmother committed murder, pretty sure we can too." She looked at me. "You're proud of that?" I asked looking at them like they were crazy.
"Hey, her reasoning was valid. If your ass wasn't here eventually you would know why she did that" grandma said being petty.
"My name is Dr. Natalie, and I'll be your doctor. How is everything?" She asked and Jollie smiled warmly. "Everything is well thank you. I'm just experiencing some minor pains but nonetheless, with time that will be fixed in no time" she said, looking directly at me and smiling.
"Well be careful, we don't want anything happening to you or the baby now" the doctor said.
Then they went into the "Do's and Don'ts" of pregnancy, went over a diet list, and prepared her to see the progress of the baby. "This may be cold" the doctor said, as she put the gel on her stomach.
I watched as Troy looked at my mother intensely.  The look of regret and sadness in his face. I watched at the doctor rubbed gel on my mothers stomach.
On me.
"The baby looks good, Mrs. Springs" the doctor complimented "Would you like to know the sex of you baby?" The doctor asked and she nodded. "Yes of course!" She said getting excited.
The doctor started to move around the scope and tried to find the gender of the baby.
After minutes of moving it, she smiled and looked at both of us.

"Congratulations Troy and Jollie..."

"Wait, why did we move?" I asked as we were now back in the front of the hospital.
"You're going to be okay Jollie, don't worry" the doctor yelled as she put a breathing mask over her face and directed her to the delivery room. my mom looked so huge for 9 months, I couldn't believe that I was in there... was I this fat??

"Where's my mother? Where's Troy?" My mother asked as my grandmother appeared right next to her. "I'm here baby, just stay with me..."

The image in front of me kept going in and out. I saw a massive amount of blood on the bed, followed by my mom pushing out a child.

"Mrs. Springs, I'm going to need you to push one more time for me okay!?" The nurse yelled at my  mother. She then pushed again, and out came a baby girl. "There you go Ms. Springs, the last one" the nurse said.

The nurses cleaned baby Joy up as next to her was a baby's hospital bed. "Hey look, your little sister" my mom said, smiling into the bed.
"Little sister? Ma, who are yo talking to? I asked as the room went mute.
My mom looked at me and my grandmother sighed. "Just keep watching" they both said as I watch my mother pick up another baby, wrapped in a blue blanket.
"Hey baby boy, look at that. You have a sister now" the boy in the blanket laughs as she held him up close. The nurses were cleaning me up as my grandmother snapped a picture of my mom holding the baby.

"He got a big ass head" my grandma said as my mom rolled her eyes smiling. "Just like his uncle.... blue eyes and all" my mom said. The nurse rolled in me, in my pink blanket in the infant bed.
The nurse picked me up and put me in my mother's arms. "My babies..."

...

*Jermaine POV*

I looked at my mother in disbelief and shock. She looked back as tears feel down her face.
"No.... seriously?" I smiled, tears coming down my face as well. This was a bittersweet moment I was having. I didn't know if I was sad, mad or glad.
"....no way...."
