Sam pov
Okay, so you're probably asking me, what's happened since the last time you saw me? Well, to answer your question, sleeping (not for that long), working, and every once in a while, eating and drinking. In that order. Not much.
Right now, I'm on my way to the cafeteria with Anna, Gabe, Charlie, and Jessica after the announcement over the speakers. "All workers, please gather in the cafeteria." I don't get why they say please, as if we have a choice.
As we arrive in the cafeteria, we see it's completely packed with all the other kids. We find a table and cram in with some other kids. I sit next to a girl with dark brown eyes, and long, dark, brown hair. As we sit there and wait, the brown haired girl leans in.
"Hey, I'm ruby." She introduces herself. I look and her and half smile, considering there's no real reason to smile.
"Sam." I say back. She nods, and an old man comes and stand in the front. Around the room, guards with guns in their hands and gear on as if they are about to go to war. I look back up at the man at the micro phone.
"Hello everyone." He says, the mike making his voice echo off the walls. "We've gathered you here today because we have some news. For some of you, it might be good news. For others, bad news." What if some of us are getting out? I can't imagine how many parents are looking for their kid, when they're all in here. "You now have to wear uniforms." There are whispers and mumbles of anger all around the room. Some kids groan, as if that's the worst part of being here.
"The men in the uniforms will have them, so go line up and grab one." Everyone runs up to them to try to be line first. I look around and slowly walk up to the lines. It makes me sick thinking that these kids have been here for so long, they are already used to all of this. For some of these kids, this might be the only place they have ever known. I look up and see about 50 kids in the line in front of me, but it's still the shortest line. That shows how many kids are here. More than I can count. I stand there waiting for the line to move, when ruby walks up to me."Here." She says, holding out a uniform. "I got one for you." I smile.
"Thanks." I say. She smiles back.
"No problem." She walks away, and look where she is going. Then I see Jessica giving her a dirty look. She looks really pissed off. I wonder why. I could leave the line now that I have the uniform, but I decide tha I should stay with Jessica so she won't be alone. I mean, Gabe, Charlie, and Anna are here, but she doesn't really know them all that well yet.
"Who was that?" She asked, annoyed.
"Who? You mean ruby? She's just a girl that I met at the table. She's pretty nice." She rolls here eyes.
"Yeah, she seems real nice." I scrunch my eyebrows.
"What's wrong with her?" She sighs.
"You really didn't know?" I stood there with my eyebrows raised in confusion. She sighs again. "She was totally flirting with you."
"Jess, she was just being nice. Did you know that being polite is so uncommon now a days, most people mistake with flirting?" I say.
"Sam, I know the difference between being polite and flirting. She was totally checking you out the whole time." I scrunch eyebrows.
"Even if she was, why do you care so much?" I ask. She looks down.
"Never mind. Just forget I said anything." She says, suddenly sad. I wondered why, but decided not to ask. She hated it when you invaded her privacy. I just shrugged it off and waited in line.
We both stayed silent the whole time, not really knowing what to say. As we finally reached the front, they just ran out of uniforms in this line, so they had to run and grab some more.
"I don't trust her." Jessica suddenly says. I turn to her. I knew she was talking about ruby.
"Why not?" Then the guy came back with the clothes and handed her one. She turned around.
"It's just a gut feeling, and they're usually not wrong." As we start heading to the exit. I roll my eyes.
"Jess, I don't know what she did to give you this feeling, but she honestly was just being nice. We don't even know anything about her. She could've been here her whole and is just trying to make friends." She sighs.
"Look, all I'm saying is that you should keep an extra eye on her." I sigh, knowing there was no point in arguing with her. She looks down at the clothes in her hands and scoffs.
"Gross. This is the ugliest shade of blue I've ever seen." I look at her, surprised. "What? I'm still a girl." I raise my hands up as if I'm surrendering. As we get close to the exit, the older man who was talking in the microphone grabbed my arm. My heart skipped a beat and I jumped back. His grip was tight on my arm, and it made me think about that night with Aiden in my cell.
The thought of it made me sick and I wanted to start crying. I remember him telling me he was only getting started. Ever sense then, I've had night mares every night and have been getting 3-4 hours a sleep each night. I thought of his breath on my neck and and the feel of his hands on my body.
"Sam? Sam?!" I snap back to reality and see that I have started to cry. I shake my head and wipe the tears away.
"S-sorry, what did you say?" I ask shakily, still thinking about that night, or day. I can't tell sense I haven't seen the outside in 2 weeks. Jessica looks at me with soft eyes, which makes me feel a little better.
"I said, you're getting a cell upgrade." The old man said. Oh great, maybe I won't have to pee in a bucket anymore. But I don't want to move. I like being next to Jessica. She always helps me calm down when I start having panic attacks in the middle of the night.
"No thanks." I decline. He smiles. His smile reminds me of Aidens nasty smile, which sends shivers down my spine.
"I wasn't asking." He says sticking a needle into my neck. I smack his hands 2 seconds to late.
"No! What did you do to him?" Jessica yells, although it was kind of fuzzy.
"Relax, I just gave him medicine to make him sleep." Jessica tries to go at him, but a guard comes and holds her back. I fall to the ground, to weak to stand.
"Sam!" I here a faint voice call out. It sounded like Gabe, but it also sounded like Charlie. Everyone's voice started to mix together, and I could no longer make out what anyone was saying. My vision was beginning to become so blurry I couldn't see anything. I tried so hard to hold onto conciseness, but I couldn't. And I slowly slipped away into a sleep. One that I didn't know if I was going to wake up from.
*thick sarcasm voice* hurray, ruby's here. Guys, I realize you are probably very confused, so let me explain it to you.
They are in this prison like building and are forced to do work. Such as... Kitchen duty, or bathroom cleaning, or some are assigned to other people. Like Sam is assigned to Alex, which means Sam's like a servant for him. Get it? What ever, I know it's still confusing, but it'll be better explained as the story progresses.
Love ya!
