Socially awkward is a term I've always been known and related to well. From the first day my parents left me at pre-school, I was too painfully shy to speak to anyone. And when others spoke to me something always ended up happening to scare them off and leave me on my own again. Usually it was me saying something weird or messing up on whatever activity everyone had been taking part in. It wasn't until second grade that I made my first real friend.

We were both too shy to talk to anyone on our own so the teachers took to pairing us together for most projects. After many awkward interactions we took to eating lunch together and eventually began even hanging out after school on occasion.

We'd stayed best friends until the end of seventh grade, he even gave me my first kiss. But then my parents decided to move to the United States for a job opportunity my dad had been offered. I'd cried loads over it, thinking my life was over. But my friend had promised we'd stay in touch and still talk all of the time; we did have the internet after all.

And we did stay in touch... for about the first year or so until he started to make new friends and finding things to do in the real world. Little by little the instant messages would grow more scarce and eventually I stopped initiating conversations. I started trying to make new friends in high school, though I wasn't very good at it. I eventually found a little group of other socially awkward people to eat lunch with though. It wasn't the glamorous high school experience most teenagers hope for, but it was better than being alone.

It wasn't until 2016 that I'd see that friend again. I was 24 and finally done with college. I'd saved up my money and was moving back to the United Kingdom. I'd gotten an apartment in London all lined up and my dad had used some of his connections to help me get a job set up. It was nothing glamorous, but I was excited to be moving back home.

A/N: I hope you guys liked that! The first  chapter will be longer and will hopefully be up soon!
