I smiled up at Dan as he pushed a lock of wet hair behind my ear, all of the initial awkwardness having melted away with the warm water. He smiled back and leaned in for yet another kiss. "Wait..." I whispered, suddenly freezing as I heard a door open and shut.

"Why?" he laughed, gently kissing my neck.

"No, stop," I said. "I think I heard something..."

Dan stood back up and listened for a few moments. "I don't hear-"

"_____! The door was unlocked so your father and I let ourselves in! Are you in the bedroom?"

"Oh shit!" I whispered, looking at doorway with wide eyes.

In the heat of the moment both Dan and I had forgotten to lock the front door after Phil had left. We'd also left the bathroom door wide open, making it so if my mum were to walk towards the bedroom she'd walk right by and a full view of us in the shower together.

"W-wait Mum! I-I'm in the shower!" I called out, quickly turning off the shower and hurrying over to shut the door. "I'll be out in a couple minutes!"

Dan looked at me in a panic as I shut the door, seeming to be asking me what to do. I frantically looked around the bathroom and quickly realized I'd forgotten to grab a towel for either of us or a change of clothes for myself. I'd have to improvise.

I grabbed the few hand towels I had in the bathroom and began frantically drying myself. I threw the towels into the sink and quickly got dressed in my old clothes before looking over to see Dan watching me in amusement. "I'll be right back," I whispered.

Dan nodded, giving me a thumbs up as I went over to the door and quietly opened it. I peeked out and looked down both directions of the hall. The coast was clear. I tiptoed out, quietly closed the door, and began sneaking my way to the closet I kept my towels in. I'd just grabbed a towel and was closing the closet when I heard my mum.

"There you are _____!"

I froze and looked back, seeing Mum smiling at me from the end of the hall. I felt the fakest and biggest grin spread across my face as I turned around. "Mum!" I said, walking over and accepting the hug she was offering. "It's so good to see you!"

"You too," Mum said. "Your father has gone to take a nap in guest room. I must admit, I'm really surprised it was already set up. I figured you'd have put it off and we'd have to call a professional to come and put it together."

"What? I would never- WAIT. Did you say he's gone to have a nap on it?"

"Oh yes, the flight over was very long and neither of us slept very well on it. I'd like to take a nap as well after I take a shower. Speaking of, now that your done I think I'll go and take one."

My eyes widened as I realized I'd have to forgo stopping my dad from laying on the bed. I There was a chance the bed wouldn't collapse. There was no chance of my mum not walking in on a naked Dan if I left her. I tried to think of what to say as she grabbed a change of clothes from her suitcase. "W-WAIT!" I said, my voice a bit more panicked than I would've liked. "Let me clean the bathroom a bit first..."

"What?" Mum asked, looking at me with confusion as she closed her suitcase. "I'm sure it's fine dear."

"N-no... it's very dirty..." I said. "I have to clean it before you go in!"

"I can handle a slightly dirty bathroom dear," Mum laughed, taking the towel I was holding walking past me. "I do live with your father after all."

"Ha... haha... hilarious as ever Mum," I said, quickly making my way past her and blocking the door. "But really... I don't think you can handle that level of dirty..."

Mum stared at me with a look of confusion on her face before another look crossed her face. This was a look of realization though. It was as though she was having an epiphany and I was the main subject of it. "You... you don't have someone in there right now do you?"

My face had never felt so heated before. And by the look on Mum's face, she could tell. "Is that what you meant when you said you needed to clean earlier on the phone?"

"Wh-what!? No Mum!" I said, feeling completely mortified. "We-we were working on the bed!"

"Working?" she asked, raising an eyebrow.

I felt myself internally dying little by little as the conversation continued. Why couldn't she just leave it be? Why'd Mum have to be such an inquisitive person? Why couldn't she be more like Dad? He would've just handed me the towel and awkwardly shuffled back into the living room. "I put off putting the bed together..." I muttered quietly. "So I um... I got help from my um... my boyfriend and his roommate..."

"Boyfriend!? I wondered whose coat that was in the living room..." Mum said, looking surprised and excited. "Wait, roommate? They're not both in there, are they?"

"WHAT! NO! MUM!" I said, covering my face.

"It's not my place to judge what you do in your spare time," Mum teased. "As long as your safe about it."

"Muuuuuum," I said, wishing I would die then and there. "C-can I please just have the towel back? And can you please just wait in the living room?"

"Of course, of course," she said, handing me the towel, turning around, and walking down the hallway.

I quickly opened the door, slipped in, and closed the door. I handed Dan the towel as he gave me a sympathetic smile. "That sounded fun..." he offered, wrapping the towel around his waist and giving me a comforting hug.

"I don't think I can go back out there..." I murmured.

"We can't hide out in the bathroom forever, love," Dan laughed. "Especially now that your mum knows we're both in here."

I frowned, knowing Dan was right. Mum would want to know things now that she knew the simple fact I had a boyfriend. She wouldn't put up with me hiding for long, she never did. Even when I'd been depressed she'd removed the lock from my door so she could at least come in and talk to me. She meant well but she could be pushy. And this would be no different, especially since she would only be here for a few days.

"Yea..." I said. "I should probably go warn her and dad about the bed anyway... oh crap! DAD!"

I quickly raced out of the bathroom, leaving Dan to get changed while I ran towards the guest room. "BLOODY HELL!"

I froze and winced, hearing the bed collapse as my dad's shout rang out through the apartment. This was going to be a long few days.
