Chapter 7: Dancing and Bathroom Stalls

Skilar's POV

We all got into my house. I was just so happy because of Lauren, whenever I'm around her I'm happy. She kept smiling and I couldn't help but smile as well.

Night of the dance

I looked at myself in the mirror. I wore a light blue strapless sequined dress that went right above my knees. If my mom was alive, she would have said I looked beautiful. Even though I never believed her, I miss her saying those words. I remember how I'd always roll my eyes and she'd laugh. Then I remember that my dad would come in with the camera and take pictures of me, I hated it. Ugh, I miss them so much. It's one thing to say they're in Maryland but it's something bigger when they're in their graves in Maryland.

"You look beautiful Ski." Grandma said behind me, only Lauren and my grandma call me that. I turned around and smiled at grandma. Of course, I didn't believe grandma but I didn't want to say 'I'm not beautiful' because last time I did was to my mom and now I regret it.

DING! DONG!

The doorbell rang loudly indicating Kane was here. Honestly, I did not want to go to this dance unless it was with Lauren but I'm too nice and I didn't have enough guts to say no. Grandma went downstairs and opened the door, I heard her open the door and make small talk with Kane. I took a deep breath, looked in the mirror one last time and did a few little touch ups with my makeup, then got my purse and went downstairs. As I walked down the stairs, I didn't look at Kane but I could feel his eyes were on me. When I finally reached the bottom, I looked up to Kane. He had a blue tie on that matched my dress. He looked cute, nothing special... nothing compared to how Lauren will probably look.

"Shall we go?" Kane asked as he reached out his arm for me to take. I forced a fake smile and nodded.

"WAIT!" Grandma yelled.

"What?" I asked her as I rolled my eyes.

"I gotta take pictures of you guys." Grandma said as she took out her iPhone. "Wait, so how do I do this?"

"You just go to the camera and click the camera thing on the screen." I said annoyed.

"Oh okay... did it take a picture?" She then asked. I saw out of the corner of my eye that Kane was trying to be patient but I could tell he was annoyed as well. "Oh it worked!"

"Okay good grandma, Kane and I are gonna go. Love you, see ya later!" I said as I took Kane's arm and went to his car, he's older for a sophomore so he already has his license and a car.

"So we're gonna go pick up Jason and Lauren then go to the dance." Kane said coolly as we drove about six blocks from my house to Lauren's. Yep, I didn't know I loved so close to the Cimorellis until after my brother and I drove across the whole town trying to find our way back home after the first time I wen to Lauren's house.

"So... how's soccer going?" Kane asked nervously, trying to have a conversation with me.

"It's good." I answered blandly. It's so weird to talk to him, he's always nervous and I honestly don't care about him at all. He cares way too much for me, he'll think I'm sad when I don't talk to him but I'm not sad, I just want him to go away. Why am I doing this? I don't really like Kane as anything more than a friend, there's just something about Lauren....

"We're here." Kane said. I looked up from thinking about useless ideas to see Jason and Lauren walking hand in hand towards the car. It really hurts to see her holding his hand.

"Hey Skilar." Lauren said cheerfully as opened the car door and flashed a bright smile at me. I then got out of the car to sit in the back with her as Jason sat in the shotgun.

"Hello Lauren." I said smiling back at her, she looked stunning. She wore a solid red sundress that went down to her knees, a blue sweater that matched her blue high heels, a golden chain key necklace, and her perfect hair in curls.

"Hey Ski, you're staring." Lauren said giggling. I blushed from embarrassment then said, "Sorry, I was just admiring your dress."

"Well, your dress is beautiful." Lauren said to me with a smile. I kind if freaked out inside, that's so close to Lauren calling me beautiful. "Let me guess, Forever 21?"

"You know me too well." I said laughing.

"Well, that store is basically the only place you buy your clothes at so...." Lauren said teasing me.

"Hey!" I said chuckling. "I shop at Dick's and Target!"

"That doesn't really count, you shop there for soccer stuff haha." Lauren said as the car stopped. I rolled my eyes then laughed because as much as I hated admitting it, it was true. Kane and Jason then got out of the car and got the doors for Lauren and I. I forced a smile at Kane and took his hand and got out of the car. Jason and Lauren were already walking towards the entrance of the dance. I wish I was the one holding Lauren's hand....

"You ready to go in?" Kane sweetly asked me as he took my hand and held it tight. I took a deep breath then said nervously, "I guess so, I'm a little nervous but whatever." Kane smiled at me then I forced a smile back and we walked in. Ugh, I think Kane really likes me, I don't know what to do.

During the dance

Lauren's POV

I tried to dance a little bit with Jason but I was not in the mood. I couldn't stop thinking about Skilar and how beautiful she looked tonight. Thankfully, Jason figured out I wasn't in the mood to dance so instead we just sat at a table and talked. Well, we were attempting to talk. I didn't really feel like talking but I felt bad that I kept Jason from dancing so I tried to talk. I just watched everyone dancing and would slowly talk to Jason. Out of the corner of my eye, I'd see him laughing at me.

"What?" I asked Jason with a little laugh, turning to face him as he tried to not laugh.

"It's like you're high." Jason said laughing.

"Shut up." I said as I playfully slapped him. Okay, maybe some of that slap wasn't all playful.

"Ow!" Jason said laughing.

"Whatever loser." I said as I rolled my eyes laughing.

"Hey, I'm a good loser." Jason said as he leaned in closer to my face. I turned back to look at his face and he kissed me before I could even think. I forced myself to kiss back, I pretended I was kissing Skilar. Woah there Lauren, don't think like that. We parted and Jason had a flustered smile on his face.

"Wanna dance?" He asked as he got up and held out his hand.

"Sure." I said with a little smile, I finally gave into dancing. When we got onto the dance floor, 'Gas Pedal' came on and I just let loose, I leaned my back against him and Jason and I did what I thought was grinding. When the song stopped, I turned around to see him with a goofy grin on his face. I then turned around and saw Skilar and Kane making out against a wall, my heart sunk at the sight. I watched as a teacher went over and told them to stop. I laughed a little, even though it hurt to see Ski kissing Kane.

"What?" Jason yelled over the music as he got close to me, he saw me laughing. I pointed over to Kane and Skilar, Skilar was now blushing. I ten yelled, "Mr. Smith had to tell them to stop making out haha." Jason then began to laugh as well then he yelled, "You should dougie!"

"NO!" I shouted back at him smiling, I'm terrible at doing the dougie.

"HEY EVERYONE!" Jason yelled, he caught a few of our friends' attention. "LAUREN SHOULD DOUGIE!" I tried to back away as I laughed and tried to politely say no. Unfortunately, a few of my girl friends were pushing me to the middle of the small dance circle that had now been made. So then I started to dance a little, I began to sway my hips a little. I tried to do the correct moves like from that video of Lisa dancing, I was probably making a fool out of myself. I then looked at Skilar, she was biting her lip as she just stared at me. She always bites her lip when she's thinking or scared, she's probably scared about getting caught making out again. I smiled at her and she smiled back, she was so cute. Finally, the song ended and I stopped dancing then Jason came up and hugged me tightly, I hate when he hugs me unexpectedly like that. I smiled at him then looked at Skilar, she suddenly looked sad. I watched as she then rushed out of the gymnasium.

"Hey Jason, I'm gonna go to the bathroom." I said to him, he said okay then quickly gave me a kiss and went to a big group of our friends. I walked out of the gym then headed towards the bathroom, that's where Skilar always goes when she's sad. I was worried for Skilar, I love her more than anyone and I want her to be happy. Once I got to the bathroom, I opened the door and walked over to a bathroom stall that wasn't fully closed. I saw Skilar just sitting there on the ground while on her phone. When she saw me, she immediately smiled then put her phone away.

"Hey Ski." I said with a smile then went down to sit next to her. She looked back at me and replied with a smile, I could tell she was sad and didn't really want to talk. "Are you okay? You kinda ran out of the gym and I got worried."

"I'm fine." Skilar lied. I was kind of hurt inside, the way she lied to me. I wonder what she's hiding and what it takes for her to trust me.

"No you're not." I said with a smirk.

"Fine, I'm not okay." She said against her will. She looked at me in a way I hadn't seen before, she had sadness in her eyes. I just hugged her, I didn't want to talk to her with those sad eyes staring back at me.
