James's POV

"Where do you wanna go beautiful?" I asked Riley once she was in my car. I had just picked her up for our date.
"Can we go to your house? I haven't seen your family in a while, I miss them." She said sweetly.
"Are you sure? My family's boring." I told her.
"I'm sure." She replied. I smiled, pulling out of the driveway. Once we had gotten to my house, and I had opened the door, my mother hurried to the door, to see who it was.
"Riley!" She exclaimed happily. "Oh! It's been too long sweetheart." She said wrapping her arms around my girlfriend. "How have you been?" She asked, referring to what's happened recently.
"I'm getting better." Riley responded, smiling.
"Are you hanging around here? At least wait till I get Piper, she's been bugging James about when you're coming by again. Piper!" Mom called, walking to the stairs. Piper made her way downstairs, spotting me and Riley.
"Hey Ri." She smiled. "Happy birthday."
"Thank you." Riley said happily. Riley's always gotten along with my family. I kinda think they like her more than me sometimes.
"Guys, we gotta go, we have a reservation for 9, but Riley just wanted to stop and say hi." I explained, wrapping my arm around her waist and starting to guide her out.
"I thought you said I got to choose what we did." Riley said, raising an eyebrow.
"Yeah, but I still wanted to do something special." I answered.

Riley's POV

James took me to an expensive restaurant for dinner, before we drove to a clearing at the top of a hill, where we sometimes went together. We were now sitting in the trunk of his car, the door open, looking out at the city in front of us. James had his arm around me, holding me tight. "It's always so pretty up here." I said, looking around.
"Not as pretty as you." He said. I smiled at him, leaning up to connect our lips. We kissed slowly for a couple seconds, before pulling away.
"I love you." I told him.
"I love you too." He responded, moving his arm down to my waist. I leaned my head against his shoulder, staring at the view again as we sat in silence. It was a comfortable silence though, not an awkward one. "I still have to give you the rest of your present." He said suddenly, pulling away from me.
"James, I told you not to get me anything." I sighed as he rummaged around, looking for who knows what.
"Alright." He said, turning to face me as he held something behind his back. "Ready?" He asked, to which I nodded. He handed me a small box with a bow. I removed the bow from the top, opening it. I stared at the object inside, my mouth slightly open.
"James, I..." I trailed off, speechless.
"Emily found it in your grandmothers jewelry box, at the very bottom. She said she vaguely remembered her wearing it. It was almost going to fall apart when she found it, it was really worn. I had it appraised, and it's all real. They said it was more than 80 years old, isn't that crazy? It was probably your great-grandmothers at one point. So I got it fixed up for you, I know how upset you were when her watch broke." James explained. I tore my gaze away from the ring to look at James.
"Thank you." I whispered, tears slowly starting to roll down my cheeks.
"Your welcome baby." He smiled, kissing my forehead.
