Michelle's POV

Riley took a while to return to the studio. Ella came back and said she needed a minute, and we started rehearsal. It wasn't for another half an hour that Riley slowly entered and got in her starting position for our routine. I was worried about her. The last couple months she's been really distant. Actually, since nationals. But this past month she's barely spoken to anyone at the studio. Not even James. It was odd.

James's POV

I looked at Riley. I don't know what Kate showed her, but it must not have been good. Riley's been depressed for a while now, I have to, but not as bad. It's been a month now, and it's really hard. No one except Riles and I know, I don't know if that's better or worse, but I'm sure we'll stupidly play a game or something like that, and they'll find out. I'm worried about Riley. When the time comes, and we do have to share, I'm worried she won't be able to handle it. In her eyes, she thinks she's failed, which isn't the case. We did everything we could, it just wasn't meant to be. "James!" I heard a voice say, annoyed.
"What?" I asked, pulling out of my thoughts. Everyone was staring at me.
"Can you and Riley show your duet?" Kate asked me.
"Oh! Yeah, sure." I answered, and everyone cleared off the dance floor so Riley and I could perform.

"James you didn't have to do this for me." Riley said as we walked down the the beach. We had just finished dinner at an Italian restaurant, called four brothers, (real restaurant. It's in Niagara Falls and is amazing. I highly suggest you go there if you can) and were enjoying the beautiful night.
"Yes I did. Because I love you." I answered her. She smiled, and blushed slightly, looking down. We made it to the beach, and sat down when I remembered something. "Hey, I have something for you." I told Riley. She looked over at me.
"You didn't have to-" She started to say, but I cut her off.
"I wanted to." I said. She smiled at me, as I reached in my pocket, pulling out the box. It was too big to be a ring box, so don't think I'm proposing or anything. Riley took the box from my hands, and opened it, revealing the locket inside.

Riley's POV

Inside the box was a beautiful silver heart locket. "Can I open it?" I asked quietly, looking up at James.
"I'd advise not to, we might lose them." He responded. I stared at him for a second.
"Why?" Was all I asked. Why did I deserve this? Why did I deserve anything? I'm a terrible girlfriend, a terrible person in general, and a failure.
"Because. You loved them more than anyone else, you deserve to have them close." James responded. "Look in the back!" He suddenly added, excitedly, changing the subject. In the back was an inscription, engraved to match James's handwriting.
We may not have right now, but we have forever3.3.16, 9.7.16
I wiped a tear that was rolling down my cheek, and looked up at James again. "Thank you. It's perfect." I said, leaning over and kissing him.
