"Hey Paula; oh hi Martha...I responded as I placed my diary into my backpack.
"Hope your weekend went well...you seemed kinda lost in the clouds"she asked.
"It went well..don't worry about me;I am just thinking aloud" I answered.
"How about you;how did yours go?" I asked because I knew she definitely has a lot under her sleeves and she's just waiting for me to ask.
"You can't imagine how interesting my weekend was" she started.
"My cousins visited from Atlanta this weekend so we had a little barbecue get together to welcome them home and the next day I went shopping with Emma(one of her cousins) and we met a guy who goes to our school and my cousin went over and got me his number.
You should have been there;he was just the guy I've been fantasizing about in my dreams.
He had the perfect smile,he seemed gentle and nice. He had this cute smile and he winked at me when he realised I was staring at him.
My heart melted at that instant....
I knew the guy of my dreams existed somewhere I just didn't realize he was right under my nose" Martha sighed feeling lost in her own world.
Wait a minute...I never got the chance to call him yesterday; I guess I would do that immediately I get home after school:he must have been expecting my call by now" she said to herself as she walked pass me to her seat.At lunch, Martha and I went to the cafeteria to get a snack and that was when she saw the guy she claims was the man of her dreams...
"Paula, Paula she called to me..that's him; she said as she points at Mike one of the womanizer's in our school;the most flirtatious of them all.
I was very surprised Martha could fantasize about such a guy. He's not really my type actually and I wouldn't like him to play with the feelings of my best friend.
"Paula, would you mind accompanying me to say hi?"
Martha asked as she dragged me along before I could even answer."Hey Mike, she said as she got closer.
"And who do we have here?" Clyde asked as he leaned backwards to get a closer look at us.
"Oh hey Martha, how's your cousin doing?" Mike asked
"She's alright; Martha answered with a frown.
"Is there anything you'd like to talk to me about cos as you can see, my buddies and I are trying to eat our lunch"
Mike asked as he turned to chat with his friends leaving myself and Martha hanging...just standing there like fools."After sometime he turned to ask; come to think of it, I hope you didn't come here just because I winked at you the other day?
I only gave my number to Emma because she told me she had made a bet with you and I couldn't let such a beautiful girl like herself loose a bet cos seriously, you are not my type of girl and i don't think anything romantically can happen between us".
he added and turned over to his friends and they busted out in laughter.Martha left the cafeteria in tears and every one began to make fun of her.
I felt so bad for her so I followed to console her."Martha and I had been friends for fifteen years now. I practically knew her more than I know myself.
We've spent most Christmas together these past fifteen years and thanksgiving also. Her parents had been there for me when my mum had been away due to her busy schedules at work and I am highly indebted to them for their kindness and love which aren't common among people lately. As I stood there waiting for Martha to come out of the washroom, where she'd been for the past ten minutes crying her eyes out, I thought of how badly Mike had treated her today and I just knew I had to do something about it.
But what🤔... I asked myself.
