I walk into the cafeteria and see Angie serving food to the students. I smile. The kitchen is one of the few places Angie can do what she wants. I move up the line and Angie plops a big piece of steak on my plate. "Thanks sis." I say. Then I notice the dreamy look on her face. "You ok sis?" I ask. Angie leans toward me and whispers, "I have a date." I roll my eyes. I know who she's talking about. One of the boys from the other school down the road. Angie has been dating Tanner for two months now, and even mom doesn't know about it. That probably for the best. "Hey Teresa!" Someone shouts. I glance over at the Juniors table. (Of COURSE Ms. Hampton had to arrange the tables by grade. Yuck.) I see my best friend Sabrina waving at me. I walk over to the table and sit down next to her. "How's Angie?" She asks. "She's in dreamland." I say sarcastically. Sabrina rolls her eyes. "What about you?" She asks. "Your going to have to cover for me tonight." I say. "Again?" Sabrina says. I nod. My mouth is to full of Angie's steak to talk. Sabrina smiles. "You'd better be back before 11 this time." She says. "I will." I say. Sabrina glances down at my plate. "Why are you eating Teresa? Ms. Hampton isn't here yet!" She whispers. "So what?" I say. "She doesn't check." "Ok." Sabrina says. She looks up. "She's coming!" Sabrina shouts. All of a sudden everyone stands up. I see Angie glance nervously at Helen. Helen gets the hint and whispers to Kate to stand up. I smile. Kate doesn't have any parents and her mean aunt sent her here to get rid of her. Ever since Angie found out, she made taking care of Kate her top priority. After Ms. Hampton sits down, everyone starts eating.
"Sabrina!" I whisper. "I'm leaving!" Sabrina is half asleep, but she nods and rolls over. "Don't get caught." She says.
I get up and leave the room. I quietly tiptoe down the hallway. I hear voices coming from my mom's room. She's probably teaching Kate. I walk down the stairs and open the back door. I jump when I see my boyfriend Corey standing there. "Hi babe." He says. "Be quiet!" I whisper. "My mom is awake!" He nods and grabs my hand. We run to the school and collapse on the sidewalk behind it. Corey glances around the corner. "No one saw us." He says. We start kissing. After a few minutes, we break apart. "How's school?" Corey asks. "Horrible as usual." I say. Corey leans in for another kiss. "Teresa?!" I look up. Angie and Tanner are standing right next to us.
