I watch Angie and Tanner run off. "What was that about?" Corey asks. I shrug. "She's just my crazy sister." Then Corey and I go back to kissing.

"Teresa! Wake up!!" Sabrina yells. I sit up. "What?" I say. "It's 7:10 already." Sabrina says. I jump out of bed and grab my school uniform. "Here, I got you some muffins." Sabrina points to two blueberry muffins on my dresser. I start putting my uniform on. It's actually not that bad. Except that we're not allowed to wear outfits that express our personalities. It has a short navy blue skirt with a gold belt buckle, a pale blue shirt with sleeves that end halfway between the elbows and the wrist. There's a white collar with a thin, dark blue ribbon tied around it. And under the skirt we wear black leggings and shoes. I eat my muffins on the way down the stairs and join all the other girls heading toward the school. I see everyone scrambling around to get in their age group. Once we're all inside everyone heads to the main hall. "I hope we don't have Ms. Hampton first class." I whisper to Sabrina. She nods. The main hall is a big room with no furniture. All the students start lining up in rows. I'm in high school, so I'm in the back row. Angela and the other middle schoolers are right in front of me in the next row. The little kids are in the front row. Ms. Hampton walks in and starts inspecting everyone to make sure their uniforms are clean and their hair is in a "proper style." As she gets closer I see Kate sucking her thumb. Oh no. Ms. Hampton hates little kid behavior. I whisper to Angie to tell Kate to stop. She leans over to Kate, but Ms. Hampton already saw her. "Kate Evans! How dare you show such improper behavior in school!" She pulls Kate's thumb out of her mouth and slaps her hand. Kate starts crying. Ms. Hampton slaps her again. "Crying is not allowed! Only babies should cry!" She yells. I notice Angie gently moving two of the little kids apart to clear a path for herself. I realize what she's going to do a second before she does it. Before I can stop her, Angie runs at Ms. Hampton, grabs her hair, and punches her in the face.
