"What happened?" Ida asks me after we get outside. "Teresa thought my eyes changed again, I'm fine." I answer. Ida gives me a suspicious look. "Okay. They changed for a few seconds. It doesn't matter." I say. "Angie, that hasn't happened in a few years. Are you sure nothing's wrong?" I glance at Ida. She really looks concerned. "Fine. The truth is I've been feeling weird lately. Like I did before Dr. Sampson figured things out." I admit. "Maybe you should call him." Ida says. "Look." I say. "I'm not going to call him just because my eyes changed again. I'll call him if I accidentally do something else. Okay?" Ida sighs. "Fine. But shouldn't we tell your mom about this?" I shake my head. "If I tell her she'll freak out and insist on calling Dr. Sampson." "Okay. But I still think she should know." Ida says. "Listen Ida." I say. "I am NOT going through that again. I've spent years keeping this a secret, and I am not giving up my almost normal life just because of my eyes!" Ida grabs my hand. "Okay." She whispers. "Just promise me you'll tell me if anything else happens." "Alright." I say. I already know I'm lying. I am not telling her what's been going on. How my eyes have been changing, how I started transforming last night, and me losing my temper on Ms. Hampton. Weird things have been happening for months, and no one can ever know. My most kept secret. The one I've been keeping for years. The other me is growing stronger. Bast is awakening.
