                    Chapter Eight
                          The Kiss

   Leslie

"Good job Ms. King." Professor Johnson handed me the test exam I took the week before. There was A+ written in bold red ink at the top of my paper. "Graduation is just around the corner. You're going to make an awesome psychologist."

I smiled widely. "Thanks professor." What he said meant so much to me. "See you next week."

After leaving campus, I stopped by the store and picked up two small things of banana pudding ice cream. Lyla was waiting on the porch for me when I made it home. We sat on the steps, eating our ice cream while catching up a little.

"So, what's up with you and this Talon guy? What y'all got going?" Lyla stuck another spoon full of ice cream in her mouth.

I smirked, hearing his name. "I like him, a lot. But you know how I am, with my guards up and everything. He's such a gentleman and he's so sweet." We looked at each other and she smiled."I just don't wanna get my heart broke again, ya know? I just know something is gonna go wrong."

"No, you don't know that! It's a mind thing. It's what you're used to. Not every guy you meet is a dog though. You gotta let that guard down and live! If you get hurt, so what? Don't give up on love. Bounce back and try again. Never ruin the potential of a beautiful relationship because of past ones. You're so amazing Leslie, any guy would be lucky to have you."

I stared at Lyla, shocked by her choice of words. "Wow. Never heard you talk like this girl. You sound like a girl who know some." We both laughed. "So wise. It sounds so funny coming from my little sister. But it's real and I appreciate it."

"You're welcome." She hugged me and kissed my cheek. "I love you and I want you to be happy."

"Speaking of that, how are you and Alex?"

   Lyla blushed. "Oh, we're good."

That was our first time having a conversation about MY love life. Lyla never really showed interest in any of my friends. She didn't like any of them. She would always say that there was something off about them. Her asking about Talon meant that she liked him. It meant a lot to me.

Talon pulled into my driveway. I had forgotten that I told him to come by, I would've got cute. I had on a plain pink hoodie, jeans, and black Uggs.

"Hey Talon." Lyla sung out his name. Yeah, she likes him. I thought to myself.

"Whasup pretty girl." He smiled a little. "How you doin'?"

"Good." She stood up and hugged him. "Les, can I use your car? I'm gonna give y'all some privacy."

I grabbed my keys from my purse and handed them to her. "Be good."

"Ain't I always?" she winked at me before leaving the porch.

Talon and I went into the house. I went to back to remove my hoodie and boots. Talon had gotten comfortable on the couch by the time I made it back. He had his white coat laid across the arm of the couch and his shoes under the coffee table.

I sat down next to him. "How was your day?"

"Better now." he pulled me closer, wrapping his arms around me. I blushed, playing with my nails to avoid eye contact. "How was yours?"

"It was good." I told him. "Got an A+ on the exam I was telling you about."

He high-fived me. "I told you that you would ace it! Good job baby."
