                            Chapter Fourteen
Meeting Mama

    Leslie

I paced the floor, it'd been five hours since Talon left. He wasn't answering my calls or replying to  any of my text. I called his parents and they said they would try to get in touch with him. I was more worried about him than anything. Scared that something would happen to him or that he would do something.

The door opened, revealing a stressed Talon. He looked tired, but mostly sad. Now that he was home, I didn't even know what to say. He sat down on the couch, not mumbling a word.

"I know you have something to say, say it." He looked up at me.

"First, don't ever do that again." I eyed him, letting him know that I was serious. "Second, I really think you should consider meeting your biological mother. She seems like a nice lady. She told me that she became pregnant with you at eighteen years old. It was her last year of high school and dropped out. After she had you, due to stress she became a crack addict. That's when she gave you up."

Talon stared at the ceiling, listening to me. With the same sad expression on his face.

"At least she didn't abort you or try to raise you in a unstable home. She wanted you to have what she couldn't give you baby. I know Ms. Sophia is your mom at heart and that won't change. But there's nothing like your blood. My siblings talk about how they wish they'd met mom sooner. I'd do anything to have her here. Please, just give it a try."

Talon sighed, leaning up. "Okay Leslie. If you come with me, I'll go."

"Okay, do you want me to invite her over?"

     "Yeah, you can."

I sighed of relief. I was so glad that Talon decided to meet his mother. He wouldn't regret it, I had that feeling. I called Ms Lisa right away and sent her my location. She said that she would be there shortly. Talon sat on the stool, rubbing his forehead. I could tell he was nervous by his body language.

"Don't be nervous baby." I kissed his lips. "Everything will go smooth, I promise. Did you want me to give you guys some privacy?"

"NO!" he said quickly. "I need you here, beside me."

I smiled, praying that everything would go swell with Talon and his mother.

A few minutes had passed, and Ms. Lisa was knocking at the door. I welcomed her with a warm hug. The look on her face was priceless. She looked so happy, but nervous.

"Thank you so much for doing this Laila." She grasped my hands in hers. "I could never repay you."

"It's my pleasure . Just do right by him."

Ms Lisa followed me into the kitchen. For a minute, neither her or Talon said anything. They just stared at each other, as if they had seen ghosts. Tears ran down Ms Lisa's face. I stood behind Talon, rubbing his back.

"My God, you're handsome." She laughed nervously, wiping her tears. She sat down on the stool in front of Talon.

"I see where I get my good looks from then." Talon smirked.

     "How are you?"

"I'm good." Talon shrugged. "But why did you gave me up Lisa?" He got straight to the point.

She swallowed hard, sitting straight up. "Well, when I became pregnant, I was a senior in high school. The daddy didn't want anything to do with me. He was my high school sweetheart, until I told him." she laughed sarcastically, shrugging her shoulders.

"My mom threatened to kick me out, if I didn't get an abortion. I couldn't do that. She was on drugs. So, I moved in with  my aunt and her boyfriend. They supported the fact that I was pregnant, but the environment was so off. It was basically a trap house. They sold drugs, all that. And the whole time I was pregnant, I was thinking, I can't raise my son in this madness. I didn't want you to live in that. I didn't want you to struggle. I didn't want you to be like those boys on the corner. I wanted you to be something. At the time, I couldn't give you the life I wanted you to have."

At that point, Ms. Lisa was sobbing loudly. I rubbed her back, attempting to calm her down. She took a deep breath, wiping her tears away.

"I had different interviews with couples. I looked until I found the right couple. There was something special about the Wright's. They were heaven sent. They were there when I went into labor. When you came, I held you for the longest. I didn't want to give you up, but I wanted you to have a good life even more. I became addicted to crack. So many things happened, so many things. One year turned into two, then ten years had flew by. I wanted to be a part of your life but I wanted to have myself together. I went to rehab in Washington for three and a half years. I got my GED and got my degree in criminal justice. It took me years to build up the courage to reach out to you. I was scared. But better late than never I guess."

Ms. Lisa grabbed Talon's hands and smiled at him. "I didn't want to give you up, I hated it. But look at how you turned out. You're a physical therapist. It was good decision for me to make, even if it meant giving you up. I wanted what was best for you. I wanted you to have a good life and you got it. And I just thank God for-"

While Ms. Lisa was still talking, Talon stood up and hugged her tightly. Tears ran down both of their faces. I knew it was tears of joy. I couldn't stop the tears from falling from my eyes. That moment was so special, so emotional, so relieving. I was happy for my baby. Ms. Lisa's story was so sad, but yet so inspiring. She didn't give up. I desired her for that.

"Thank you." Talon whispered. "Thank you for wanting the best for me."

"Thank you for understanding." She cried out. "I've waited for this moment for so many years."

After getting themselves together, Lisa and Talon talked and laughed some more. She's silly just like Talon. I saw some of her features and characteristics in him. I told Talon he wouldn't regret it.

"I want you to meet Theo and Sophia." Talon told Lisa.

     "Okay, when?"

     "Now."

Ms. Lisa looked nervous. "Okay, we can do that. Let's go."

We left immediately in Talon's car. Along the way, Talon told Lisa stories about his younger days. I love the fact that they bonded so quickly.

"MA!" Talon yelled as we walked into the house. He disappeared up the stairs.

Tia walked into the living room from the kitchen. "Hey Leslie."

"Hey Tia." I hugged her. "This is Ms. Lisa, Talon's mom."

"Awwe, hey. Nice to meet you." Tia shook her hand.

"Nice to meet you as well pretty girl."

My phone started to ring, it was Tricia calling. I stepped outside to answer.

    "Hey baby, what's up?"

"Leslie, please get here. Fast. I'm at the house. Alfonso followed me here. He's trying to kill me Leslie." She cried into the phone, out of breath.  "Please, Leslie-"

The call dropped. I rushed into Talon's car, speeding out of the driveway.
