Chapter Fourteen - Forever

After Clawd's graduation ceremony, he and Draculaura return to the apartment to simply be alone, away from everyone else. They're lying in bed, snuggled up against one another. Draculaura's head rests delicately on Clawd's bare chest, her hand resting between his pecs. She stares at the black polish on her fingernails, her mind working on a way of asking the one question she wishes she could ask. 

"You don't have to worry about offending me, Laura," Clawd says quietly. His voice vibrates in his chest like a harmonious whisper. "You turning a lot of gears in that brain of yours. Just ask." 

"Are you scared of dying?" she asks. 

"No. I've got a couple hundred years left, D." 

"I know. But I have an eternity without you. I don't want that to happen," she says. 

"I'm sorry," he says. It's genuine, and he wishes he had more to say, but he doesn't.

"I've thought of a plan that I would like to run by you," she says.

"Go ahead. I'm all ears, D." 

"After we have kids, after we have everything you've ever wanted, you let my dad turn you," she says. 

Clawd's eyes widen momentarily in surprise. "Wow," he whispers. "You... want me around that badly?" he asks. 

Draculaura crosses her arms over his chest, pushing herself up to look at him. "Of course I do. I love you, Clawd. I don't want you to go anywhere. Ever. I can't lose you, even if it's not for over a hundred years. I want to know that there's a safety net," she says. 

Slowly, he nods. "I'll do it." 

"You will?" 

"Yes." He reaches up, tucking a strand of pink highlighted hair behind her ear. "I love you. You are my mate. My job in this life is to protect you and keep you happy. If me being here with you for eternity is how I do that, then I'll do anything to do it," he says. 

She smiles softly and leans up to kiss him. "Thank you," she whispers. 

He nods, burying his fingers in her hair. "Again, I would do anything for you," he says. "That's a promise. Forever."
