I couldn't do anything but sit there. My heart was beating too fast and I felt like I was going to die. They made me say things... I had never told anyone of my powers except Blaize, and I was wasted when I told him. It was scary. I finally pulled myself out of my daze when the lights went out. I reached out to Sky, knowing that it would be Joey on the screen. She came and huddled into the corner with me and tried not to look up. Blaize did, though. It was of Joey hanging from the chains. Sky whimpered, but stood up. She had a look of determination on her face. The lights came back on and the door opened.
"Skylar."
She walked over to the door and out of it. Xena was pushed back in. I reached out and caught her just before she hit the ground. She held on to me tightly, as if she thought if she were to let go, she would be dead.
"Hey... it's okay..."
"No. Can't you see that it's not?" Blaize snapped. "We were taken here and have had to re-live our pasts." He started laughing hysterically.
"Blaize. Blaize don't you do that. Don't you leave us here now."
"Why shouldn't I?"
"Because we need you." I looked down at Xena, who was sobbing in my arms. "Celie needs you." I knew that it was a rash move, but he needed to be sucked out of it. He stopped laughing abruptly. He knew that he needed too be at least half sane if we wanted to get everyone out of there. Xena was shaking really bad in my arms.
"Xena... Do you want to talk about it?" She shook her long blond hair at me.
"Are you sure? You seem pretty upset."
"No shit, Sherlock." Blaize butted in. His voice had steadied, but there was still an undertone of panic.
He stood up and started pacing.
"Sorry." He said. Xena stopped crying as suddenly as Blaize stopped laughing. She gasped.
"Xena? Xena, what's wrong?"
"I left the water running at Sky's house!"
Blaize and I laughed.
"I don't think that will matter." I said and she relaxed visibly.
"Oh. Okay." She looked up at me, with tears running down her face.
"Sorry. You know. For crying. I got your shirt all wet."
"No... don't apologize for that."
"I know... but, I don't know what to say. You are so nice. I've never met anyone who would be willing to carry a stranger through unknown hallways and then, let the same stranger cry on his shoulder..." She trailed off. I don't know what I was expecting her to say, but it wasn't that.
I guess I just didn't ever think of it that way.
"Come on, you're not a stranger, you're Sky's friend."
"Okay, I guess." Was all she said. She looked offended.
"Oh. So she's not my friend, too?" Blaize said, With a slight tinge of sarcasm.
"Why, of course she is!"
"Okay. Okay."
The door opened, but it was the lady, this time, not Sky. We all stopped talking.
"We will see you all now."
Those words seemed to mock me as I stood up. I don't know how, but they did. Xena looked up at me with a look that I can only describe as pure terror. I had to basically drag her out of the door. She seemed like she really didn't want to go.
I knew that we had to.
