I would have stopped the tears from falling down my face but I couldn't find the strength. I looked over to the bedrooms and saw that Grace was standing in the doorway with her hand clasped over her mouth.
"J-June..." Grace stutters with tears falling down her face.
"I-I-I didn't mean to it was an accident. I'm sorry. She's dead and it's all my fault!"
"What have you done?!" She choked as she fell to her knees.
"I-I don't know. She was going to kill you, Grace. She thought you were getting sick. What was I supposed to do Grace? What the hell was I supposed to do!" I screamed out as I picked up the gun which had specks of Katie's blood on it and put it to my own head. I stayed like that until the tears started flowing again. I dropped the gun and started crying even more barely able to contain my choked sobs.
"We need to leave," I say not wanting to even be in the same building as Katie's lifeless corpse. "Go pack your things. We just need to leave."
"Where will we go, June? She was our guide she was going to help us get us supplies."
"We're still going, we still need to get their help. I still need to find my sister, Alexis, in Georgia."
"June we have no proof that the plane even made it to Georgia. Or if she's still alive."
"Grace, I know my sister; she's alive."
"Okay, I'm just saying that Atlanta is a big place and it could be filled with the Changed. I saw on the news that the government bombed and set all the big cities on fire."
"We'll find her. We have to. Go pack your things we're leaving for Atlanta within the hour." I told Grace. I walked into the bedroom where Grace and I slept. Our things were mostly packed, besides my tank top that I threw into a corner which I didn't really care about because it was more of a bother than helping me stay warm in the winter months. I let out a long sigh it's only going to get colder I reminded myself of last year's blizzard where It was the coldest it's ever been in North America especially in Tennessee. But being from west Michigan I'm well acquainted with the snow that could literally kill you if you were caught outside in it I can tell you it wasn't like that five years ago. Well, anyways I did have an older brother that I lived with only because I had no one to turn to after the accident... Then it was just the three of us: Me, Alexis, and Daniel. I did stop at my father's farm before I made a run for Georgia to try to find my sister in the middle of all the chaos. I had to lie to my brother Daniel about losing Alexis, there was no more room on the plane I had to put her on that plane and promise her that I would somehow find her when I get to Georgia.
That was five years ago I can hardly picture her baby face she's probably doesn't have that cute little button nose that both me and my sister share. She's not a kid anymore, I wish we could go back and be innocent kids again" Daniel I'm sorry I didn't come home and wait for you after all of this started, I just panicked and took our sister Alexis. I'm sorry that I just disappeared with Alexis. I can't trust you anymore, not after what you did to us and Whitney. Don't look for us if you find this note. bye, June Atlas"
My thoughts carried on until I reached up until the point where I shot Katie in cold blood murder. I finished packing my bag and I yelled for Grace to meet me by the front door. I picked up my bag and walked over to the room where Katie slept last night and spread the contents of bags onto the floor so I could see what would be useful to me and Grace. I found a few small knives, an empty colt python, two unopened cans of food, and a half empty bottle of water. The picture of Alexis which I'm sure is my twin sister fell face down onto the wooden floorboards. And grabbed it. The question still remains on how Katie knew my sister and why she didn't know I was her twin sister. Did Alexis even not mention me?
"June you ready yet?!" Grace called from down by the door.
"Yeah, I'm coming right now!" I yelled back I quickly gathered my stash and put I slipped Alexis's picture into my pocket. And ran down the hallway past Katie's lifeless body whose eyes were now closed.
"Ready?" Grace said her small backpack sat high on her shoulders, and her knife strapped to her thigh.
