I'm walking along the town garden when one of the royal guards approaches me.
"Good morning, are you Felizita Amsel?" he asks me.
"Yes," I reply.
" You have been nominated for first in-line for royal-ship," the guard said with a monotone voice. I didn't know what to say.
"You and your family will be needed to attend a feast at the palace, where all the other candidates will be," he says before I thought of something to say. He leaves immediately after he hands me a letter with the royal seal on it.
As I open the carved wood front door, I gasp for air. The delicious aroma of homemade chicken noodle soup fills my lungs.
"Hello, why are you out of breath, Felizita?" my mother asks as she stirs the soup. I hand her the letter as a walk towards the kitchen to inhale the smell. My mother turns off the steaming stove and opens the letter. I look at her read the letter with a very firm face; part of her azure hair slips from the golden headband and frames her fair face. She starts to fold the paper, and slowly turns to me with the biggest and brightest smile I've seen on her face. She starts jumping up and down like a toddler.
"You're going to a princess, you're going to be a princess"
"Well actually I'm just nominated to be in line to be princess," I tell her.
"Well, I seriously think you'll be first in line," she tells me with outmost confidence in me.
I open the cabinet a take out three bowls for lunch, "What are you doing Felizita?"
"I'm just getting the bowls for lunch, mom," I reply to my mother.
" No, no, use the best bowls, oh! Wait! Use the beautiful jade set, I know they are your favorite and it is a perfect way to celebrate," she says so enthusiastic. I put back the bowls I took out and went to the dining room where the Jade set was displayed in its glory. I carefully place the bowls, cups, and utensils on the table, while my mother brings out the food courses. First on the menu a healthy salad dressed in olive oil, second the amazing chicken noodle soup, and lastly but not least a nice little caramel custard for everyone, my dad's favorite.
I hear the door open on the other room, I run over to the room to greet my father, "Good afternoon, father how is your day going?"
"My day is going good, did your mother make chicken noodle soup, it is a little nippy outside?" he replies. I lead him to the dining room where he quickly notices that the jade china plates are not were they usually are.
"Why are we using the jade china set?" he asks inquisitive. My mother walks over to him and gave him the letter that was given to me by the royal guard. He notices the royal seal in it and I see the confusion on his face. When he is done reading the letter he looks at me and I could see the pride in his face.
"Today is a day for celebration, lets eat!" my father says before he sits down and we fight over whom gets the last of mom's delicious chicken noodle soup.
I spent the rest of the day in the gardens, thinking. My parents thinking about what we should wear for the banquet that is just three days from today.
