Andre
I sat at my desk, watching the fire flicker. I couldn't believe it. I tossed out the chance to be with Octavia and now I had to deal with the consequences. What were they exactly? The repercussion of boredom and the memory of a mistake. This house was small; my bedroom assisting as a living room, luckily a television sat at the top of the fireplace. Although, the only channel it contained was of movies. The bathroom was clean and organised, containing a simple toilet, towel, sink and a shower. Unlike the kitchen of which involved complex machines, such as the microwave, oven and dishwasher. I had never worked one in my life, I wasn't going to change that now. The wooden tiles that served as my floor treated harsh against my feet on the chilly winter days, the walls dark oak offered no warmth. The barbecue was located outside, therefore I wasn't eating today. Meat; a foreign taste that I've desired since day one. Eating the creatures of my kingdom was not an option, but perhaps discovering new lands could have offered a far more delightful stay in this place. This world, it was a different dimension to Earth's, containing TV's, phone's, yet no internet. Therefore, communication was troubled.
"Andre?!" my eyes widened as the doors opened in a rush. She was back, surprising considering the way I had treated her. "Something horrible happened!"
I chuckled, always the females and their incapability of being direct. "Care to explain what exactly--"
"One of your creatures was . . . killed," Octavia bit her lip. The amusement aside, I got off my chair with a mighty screech, my strength forcing the object across the kitchen. This was uncommon, none of them ever destroyed one another, they lived in peace. It must have been something else, like the Darkness King, perhaps. "I'll show you, it was so disgusting."
"You're covered in dirt and leaves," I said. Watching her reaction as it morphed into annoyance, "Just show me where it is."
She nodded and strode out the doors, myself following. Stopping at the entrance in the prospect of curiosity, I sighed. Gazing around the small house, I noted how the fire had died due to the howling wind outside. What was up with the weather? I swear it was sunny outside when Octavia left . . . Then again, I was thinking to myself for a long while. I'll admit, I was quite happy when she burst through those doors without Nya. Maybe she viewed me as a friend, yet it was far too soon.
"Your cottage is pretty, but why no castle?"
I thought to myself for a minute, creating an awkward tension I would have to defuse to continue the conversation. "I love nature, I guess, and besides, it wasn't my choice in the matter seeing as we aren't the first."
She fell silent at that, albeit, she hadn't said a word before so. We were alike, Octavia and I. Which would forge a greater difficulty when it came to wooing her over. As our path became denser, I frowned. The roots here were wider, darker and the branches looked like they could cut deep. Dangerous when combined with the wind. This was a treacherous part of the woods I didn't visit often, I would have to fix it up to prevent bad situations. But it would form a perfect spot for when I desired to be alone. I stared down at the ground, careful not to step on anything particularly dangerous. My boots scraped the few plants we came across in a half-hearted attempt to release my apathy. That was until Octavia halted, whether it be due to hesitation or in need of a break, I had no idea.
"What's wrong?" my voice felt as if it were swept away by the wind, but she listened and motioned for silence. I focused, but found I couldn't hear anything of great importance. "We have to hurry up, it's almost nightfall! And by then it will be hard to see what you're looking for. Stop wasting time and get us there, unless you don't know the way?"
"Of course not!" Octavia shouted, spinning around and facing me, clenching her fists. "How would I remember where it is when earth isn't my element? You find it, it's not that hard to feel the ground, the blood would still be dripping."
I nodded before kneeling and placing my hand against the soil. Clutching it, I concentrated on the earth and what was disrupting the balance. Inhaling and exhaling, my eyes opened on their own accord and I saw it. The rock, the meadow; it had been covered in a deer's remains. The dirt still on my fingers, I stood and looked around, a peculiar object catching my attention. A guitar. The strings were in ruins and the instrument; catered in red. I gaped at the horrific sight, it was like I was there. Dropping the remains of the earth, my body teleported back to where it once was. Psychically I was with Octavia, but emotionally, I was at the meadow.
"Let's get back," I said, my eyes downcast. My mood in pieces - much like the deer - I began walking in the direction we had come. No doubt that was the Darkness King's doing, a warning, perhaps. "Speaking of, how did you find it? It's nowhere near your kingdom."
"I was following something, but I couldn't catch it."
I laughed. Shaking my head, "A bit stupid, don't you think? I mean, it could've been him and you headed straight for danger."
"You don't control my life, you may be King here but not where I live. Do not speak to me as if I am one of your friends," Octavia spat. Taken aback, I raised my eyebrows, hiding my hurt through thinned lips. Not that she would spot it anyway, seeing as I was ahead of her. As we walked back to my kingdom, it was silent. Hanging onto her previous words, I trudged through the forest with a scowl. Sulking was not my forte, and it didn't look good on me or so I've been told. Octavia was mysterious, that was admirable at times, but others it was frustrating."Um, I'm sorry about before," I said, wincing. She didn't respond, turning back in confusion I found her no longer behind me. My cheeks burned as I realised I hadn't even heard her leave. Wow, aren't I observant? She possibly left after she went off at me. Now I felt guilty of my attitude. Gazing at my cottage, a small frown crept upon my lips, reminiscing Octavia's question. Why didn't I get a castle?
Striding back inside I relished as the warmth of the fire hit me at full force. The heat was a large difference compared to how cold it was out there. I didn't realise I had left it, it could've burnt down my cottage. I would be more careful next time.
