The Societal Paradox: A Compromise of Being Yourself and Being Part of a Group
by Aldair Alarcon
We are told to be ourselves at a young age
But soon we realize that is a fictitious reality
For if not the term peer pressure would not exist
We may candidly insist on maintaining this true
Only that our advisors say the contrary when ineffective
Stay with the group and do what they do or go away
We foolishly think this is situational, but it will not go away
Unfounately, this will remain without regard of your age
Change is a cynical cell although it proves not to be ineffective
Affinities is what is gained although when most needed only you are reality
You are not like crooked planks to undergo true
Living and not you feel like if you did not exist
Individuals are we and no collective brain does exist
These problems that looking afar will not make it go away
A preventable influence not a social dictate that needs to be true
An individual will not necessary be like wine and better with age
Lost in outdated stories like Don Quixote without a grasp of reality
Remedy to a lone heart by altering oneself is ineffective
Drunk with an allusion until sober will show ineffective
Like a rainbow's deceiving distance after a storm will exist
One time or another we succumbed to the austere reality
That with its apathetic claws will keep one close and away
Injuring one emotionally by coming out of the gloomily shade for an age
Perhaps, there is hope to enjoy the sunny disposition oh, so true
The reverse of shade is well, but exposure solely to the sun is not true
A necessarily balanced compromise is an efficiently ineffective
Do not reduce thee self to peer pressure known of young age
Live for yourself and not be a dodo that does not exist
No identity one vastly walks until oneself is dreadfully too away
Alas, perils complacency with false compensation of company alike Offred's reality
'Life is a stage' alright, but pleasing entirely an audience is not reality
Not a puppet or jester for anyone's amusement I will be true
Refrain from thee and put your self-damaging ways away
Stalking stagnant stigma stays, but I will be strong to make ineffective
Different, yet alike 'we saw the same sunset' today and everyday exist
Conformance to fill the absence until meeting others in a distant age
Preposterous is to declare peer pressure is ineffective
What matters is that in the end one's objective is to remain true
Ubiquitous this paradox with be until the end of earth's age
