- shika pov -

"hey naruto, ready to go?" i ask the idiotic blonde boy who's packing his stuff up after a very un eventful day at school "how can you have this much stuff out on such a boring day? everyone left ages ago" i say, smirking
"oi, just because i have heaps of stuff out doesn't mean i use all of it" he pouts
"then why is it all out" i say, chuckling and throwing an arm up because the other one is resting on a bookshelf
"because it looks nice" 
"so you own stationary because it looks nice?" i raise an eye brow
he nods
"what a drag, *groan*"
"all done now" he squeals and throws his bag on his back and holds both straps in his hands
"you look like a big kindergarten student" i ruffle his hair
"don't be rude about my height, short people rights" 
"well lets go"

we head out and turn towards nara forest "taijutsu today" i chirp
"can't we play shogi or something?"
"i wish but you sir, need good grades" i spin on my heel to poke him in the chest
"*sigh* ok, but ramen later" 
"my mum's making ramen for tea"
"alright! believe i!"
"why do you like cloud watching?"
"*sigh* the clouds move and change shape, never staying the same. they accept change and go with the flow it's peaceful and relaxing to just... chill and watch"
"we should go" he gives me a whole hearted thumbs up and smiles
"sure" i turn to the clouds

we walked slowly in silence for a few minuets
"can i ask you something?"
"shoot" i say
"why did you move to the sand?"
"after the 9 tails attack on konoha, our house and most of the forest was gone, my parents weren't very rich so we had to move, i did have an older brother, choji but he was... he was killed" it's always hard to talk about choji but it felt better that naruto knew
"oh, i'm sorry"
"please don't be, i just wish he were still here"
narutos face fell slightly and he subtly held his stomach
"you ok?" i ask, worried
"oh, uh yea" he was jumpy so i decide to drop the subject
"we're here"
"cool" he wasn't as happy as before

"hey, the clearing's just here and the apple tree is just ahead" i say and drop my bag, he does too and disappears to grab apples
"hehe here we go" he hefts back 4 large apples which we ate in silence, after we were done he got into an uchiha stance since sasuke was taught by obito and sasuke taught him and i got into nara stance
"ok, 3, 2, 1, GO" i yell

he runs at me and throws a shuriken a me, i dodge it easily, oh no! it was one of his clones and he throws a kunai at my back, i dodge vitals and get up at my waist
"you, can't escape me now" he smiles evilly
"heh you say it like your hard to beat" i smirk at deflect another kunai with my own
he comes at me and tries to roundhouse kick me, i block it and grab his wrists and pin him against a tree, wrists above his head. i move my head to his ear
"i win, wanna go again?" i ask innocently

i run at him with my kunai, he blocks it and tries to stab me, i block that.
i try to punch him but he catches my fist, so i kick him and use him as leverage to back flip 
he runs and throws lots of shuriken and kunai at me, it's hard to dodge, i got cuts and i am bleeding, as i was observing my injuries i hadn't noticed that he'd run at me and he kicks me really hard into a tree
"i win" he says triumphant "believe it" he walks over and offers me his hand which i take
"no hard feeling fro the kick" he says and rubs his neck sheepishly

"oh please, you look 10 times worse than me" we both laugh as we walk back to my house
"hey mum" i say smiling, she looks at me happily, while stirring a pot of noodles
"hey, ms nara i'm naruto" he says and bows, she narrows her eyes a bit
"nice to meet you naruto, your guardian says nice things about you
"it's ok, i call her mum" he says sheepishly
"well then, naruto please wait outside" naruto nods and leaves
"shikamaru nara, why are you hanging out with him?!" she asks "i didn't think you meant naruto UZUMAKI as in that one" she says angrily "you'd better off being bullied then being his friend" 
"mum" i stare at her, horrified how could say something like that about naruto?! "what did he ever do to you? why are you so, ugh un happy with my friend, he's my friend and i intend to keep it that way" i say and storm out

"come on naruto lets go inside" i say
"ok" he smiles
"naruto's staying for dinner mum" i say as we pass the kitchen
"what did your mum say?"
"oh just stuff about me keeping up my grades because we hang out all the time"
"oh ok, i thought it'd be something cool like your dad made a device that could use jutsus that were sealed in tiny scrolls like kekkei genkais and stuff" he made guns with his hands and pretended to shoot them
"*chuckle* no"
"so what are we doing?"
"cloud watching" i reply
"cool"

we get outside and i jump onto a step then onto the roof
"come on" i say and give him a hand because he's short
"i can get up myself" he grumbles
"but you still took my hand" i smile, it's slowly getting brighter but will never come close.
we walk along the slightly slanted roof to the edge that faced opposite nara forest and sat with our feet hanging over the edge and we watch the sky go from blue, to orange, to pink, purple and red as the brilliant sun set and the clouds perfectly framed the scenery 
"your right shika, the clouds are relaxing" he says, yawns and rests his head on my shoulder, it feels good so i don't reject and we sit until the sun is long gone and it's black all round
"DINNER" my mum screeches "also your dads home" 
"naruto" i poke his head, yep! he's sleeping "ramen" his head shoots up
"wha- oh hey shika hehe" he rubs his neck sheepishly and smiles
"we should get inside for dinner" i say and jump to the ground, he follows

we ate slowly, dad talked about his mission to the hidden mist and how he fought zabuza momochi himself and mum talked about how she met mebuki today and that she was happy that i was such good friends with naruto, my mum wasn't too impressed
"thank you for having me tonight" naruto says and smiles
"but it's very late, call your mum and just go home in the morning" dad says
"very kind of you but i don't want to be a burden"
"nonsense naruto, it'll be fine i'm sure" mum threw a death glare to dad
"after all it is friday night" he says
"uh well, if you insist, thank you so much" naruto bows and turns to me
"come on, we'll go to my room" i say
"i'll text my mum" he says when we get to my room

"sorry, it's a bit small, it was a small wooden room with a bed in the corner, a window on looking sunset, a desk, wardrobe and rug on the floor along with some chip packets and the spare mattress was under my bed
"it's neater than mine, but sasuke makes it dirty he says it's cool" we both laugh
"my mum says it's fine as long as i get home by 11 am" he smiles, so do i
