"So, you saw it? The tattoo?" I asked Scott.
"Well, yeah. But it seems like nothing, just an ordinary tattoo." He replied, leaning back into his chair.
"That's exactly what I was stressing!" I began, getting slightly frustrated. "It wasn't ordinary. It glowed when he shook my hand. Explain how that is normal to you?" I asked, tapping my foot on the ground.
"Says the one who can draw tattoos with powers." Scott told me, and I sighed. He had a point.
"You're the one who is a werewolf." I answered and rolled my eyes.
"Can we just look up the symbol?" Scott intervened.
"No, we need Deaton's help." I sat on his bed beside Scott.
"Fine-" He got interrupted by a woman that I'm guessing was his mom walked in.
"Scott, dinner is- oh, who's this?" She asked.
"Mom, this is Stiles. He is my friend, uh, from school." Scott told her, looking nervous.
"You used to have a friend named Stiles when you were a kid." She said randomly, and Scott and I looked at each other, I forgot to tell him! She saw our distress and she raised her arms up in defeat. "I guess not."
"But, I digress. Stiles, do you want to stay for dinner?" She put her hands on her hips, glaring at Scott and I. She presumably wanted an answer.
"I would love to, but, I have to get home-" I got cut off from Scott. "We need to see Dr. Deaton..."
"Oh please," Scott's mom retorted, "It can wait."
"Mom..." Scott started. She grabbed my arm and I jumped a little. She had a strong grip. "Let's eat, and I don't want to hear you complain."
"Stiles, call your parents and let them know where you are."
I took out my phone and dialed Jace's number. He answered after not even one ring. "Where are you Stiles?"
"Um, hi dad." I said awkwardly, Scott's mom is still here listening to me, so I had to act.
"Who are you calling dad?" Jace asked, sounding confused.
"I'm staying at Scott's for dinner... is that okay?" I proposed.
"Ok honey, be home safe!" Jace googled into the phone in baby talk. My face turned to a grimace.
"Was that necessary?" I asked. "I'll explain it later." Jace couldn't stop laughing on the other line. "Bye dad."
"Bye sweetheart!" Jace exploded into laughter and I hung up on him.
"I can stay for dinner." I confirmed and half-smiled, trying to keep a happy demeanour.
"Great." She smiled and left the room.
I ran a hand through my hair. "This is gonna be so awkward." I sighed, and turned to Scott. "What if she asks me a bunch of questions? Or about my runes!"
"Just lie." Scott replied.
"Fine." I took a deep breath and we went downstairs.
"Come sit." Scott's mom said. Scott and I sat beside each other and Scott's mom sat across from us.
I shifted in my seat. "So, what do I call you?"
"Melissa." She smiled a little, still staring at my runes. "So... you have a lot of tattoos?" She questioned. I glanced down at my arms self-consciously and nodded.
On the angel, what do I say? "Um, well, it's a... family tradition?" I said, but it came out as more of a question. Oh god, why would I say that?
"Uh-hunh." She thought about what I said with a confused expression on her face. "And what started that tradition?" She sneered slightly.
Scott furrowed his eyebrows and groaned. 'Mom...' But she waved him off. "Scott, not right now."
"Uh... " I started to turn red, becoming nervous. "Well... I don't really know..."
"Oh so-" She started to reply but got cut off by Scott. "Okay, let's talk about something else." After Scott said that, it started to get really awkward and quiet.
We all sat silently picking at our chinese take out. Very abruptly Scott stood up. "Mom, we should go."
"Sit down." She signalled to the chair where Scott had been sitting looking rather upset.
"Please..." He pleaded.
"Ugh, fine, go." Melissa started. "You two owe me a real dinner."
"Sorry Melissa." I responded and laughed half-heartedly.
We ran out of the house, and Scott started running really fast ahead of me. "Seriously?!" I shouted while running trying to catch up with him, and I heard him laugh a little. I stopped to redraw the speed rune.
I started to run ahead of him, which seemed to get him pretty pissed off. He ran once again ahead of me, and before you know it we made it to the Animal Clinic.
