of furtiveness

My head was pounding as I let out an unruly groan, asking for the millionth time in the past hour, "Are we there yet?"

"Avery," Allie said in a warning tone. I sighed, knowing that I was probably getting on her nerves now. After about half an hour in to the journey, we had, had enough of Kala, Genevieve and Skyy's girl talk about manicures and make up and so had moved to the middle of the bus where Sawyer and Carver were sat. Once the three boisterous girls had moved from the back and to the front, Allie and I had raced for the back seat. Unfortunately, she won and so she got the full length of five seats to lie on. At first, I had attempted to lie on top of her, seeing as we were practically sisters. However, every time I tried to, she would just push me off so in the end I gave up altogether and just lay down on the backwards seat of two. It was extremely uncomfortable, might I add, being squished on to two seats. I eventually gave up on getting any rest and I was assuming Allie had done the same as well seeing as we both sat upright, at the same time too. From then we had started a game of I-spy. It had started off with just the two of us but soon, everyone had joined. However, as the minutes passed, people slowly grew tired of the childish game and started drifting off in their separate directions of the bus.

So that left us where Allie and I were sat now. We had decided to share the back seat, me at one end and her at the other with our legs up and meeting in the middle. We had been tossing a small bouncy ball back and forth, occasionally missing it and having to get up and search for it in every corner of the stupid bus.

"Sorry," I muttered. However, just as the words left my mouth, I felt the bus come to a stop. I quickly jumped out my seat, running to the window. A grin played gently at my lips as I saw that we were here. We were finally in Evan's Point.

"Oh my God, we're here!" Allie squealed from beside me.

"I know!" I said back, just as enthusiastically. We both quickly made our way to the front of the bus and watched as the driver opened up the door. A breeze of much needed fresh air hit us as we began stepping off the bus. My feet soon reached the ground and I looked across at Allie who was smiling just as hard as I was. We followed the rest of the eight kids to where our luggage was being unloaded by the driver. I grabbed my two bags and hauled them to the side. It was then a five minute walk into the main town where everyone would greet us. We couldn't go on the bus because they would be nowhere for it to be able to make a U-turn when it needed to leave after dropping us off. Not that I minded because personally I loved walking and my legs really needed a good and much needed stretch.

"This is so exciting," Allie said from beside me as we walked by each other. "What do you think it'll be like?"

"Well, from what Mom, Dad, Milo and Adrienne have told me, it sounds amazing," I told her.

"Really?" she asked. "What do they say?"

"Well, they've told me that everyone is super nice and loads of fun. In fact, the whole place is filled with joy and happiness," I explained to her.

"I seriously can't wait until we get there," Allie breathed.

"Neither can I," I let out a sigh. After a few more minutes of walking, we finally arrived and it was safe to say that we were all shocked.

"Are we in the right place?" Allie whispered to me and I shrugged.

"I think so," I whispered back.

"Well this place certainly doesn't look like the Evan's Point we've grown up hearing about." Allie was right. This definitely didn't look like the place we'd heard stories about all our lives from the ones that had gone before us. We had all expected a place bursting with excitement and buzz. A place filled with noise and aimless chattering. A place decorated in bright colors and decorations. Not the place we were looking at right now.
