Recap: Austin's dad just went to the hospital and has to have surgery.
I see Zach's car pulling into the gas station from a far. I grab Cody and her diaper bag from the back and grab my bag. Right when Zach parks, he's out of his truck and helping get stuff out of my hands. My hands are shaky as try and buckle Cody up. Zach notices me struggles and comes around the truck to buckle her up. Once he's done, he turns to me and just pulls me into and tight, warm hug. He rubs my back and says soothing words to me as I bawl my eyes out on him. After about five minutes of my uncontrollably sobbing, I calm down. I whip my eyes along my wrist and thank Zach. Nodding towards me, he opens the door of his truck for me. I quickly get in and buckle up. Zach starts his truck up and we make our way to the hospital. Where my dad could be on his death bed.
I grab Cody and her diaper bag and rush to the sliding doors of the intoxicating hospital. The smell of cleansing and rubber fill my nose. A lady in about her early 20's, it looks like, asks me what I needed.
"I'm looking for my dad, Shawn Curly? Where is he?" I couldn't help but let tears fill my eyes as I say his name,
"He's in surgery still. Who are you? She sounded kind of snobby towards the last part.
"Excuse me, but I am his daughter. He is my father and if you have a problem with that than I'd like to talk to your boss. Because I'm pretty sure he or she wouldn't appreciate you being rude to someone who is related to a patient, Especially to one who is in surgery and could be on his death bed from what I've hear. So you either stop being a bitch and tell me what is going on with my FATHER or you can get me your boos. Either one is fine with me, your choice," I snapped angrily. Her eyes got all big and she looked baffled.
"Sorry Ma'am. Yes, Shawn Curly. He's in surgery right now considering he went head on with a drunk driver driving a van. Just about twice the size of his car. The van was on the right side while your dad was on the left and all of a sudden, it served over and hit your dad. The car rolled over and hit a tree. Your dad has a mild concussion and some brain trauma. He has a broken rib considering the van hit the drivers side. Other than that, it's just a bunch of bumps, bruises, and scratches. He's very lucky considering what the crash site looked like. He's in surgery because of his head trauma because the was bleeding in his brain. He should be out in just a bit and in recovery. We wont know whether he recovers or not until the first 48 hours are over," she explained quickly and calmly to me.
I couldn't believe this. My father never deserved this. He is the worlds most greatest man alive. He can't die on me now, I'm only 16! I even have a child! Okay, that's my fault but he's supposed to be here for me and her. I don't have a mom and what am I supposed to do without my dad. HE's the rock in y life and I don't know if I can do it without him. The tears are building up quickly as a walk back to Zach and my daughter. I try and keep it under control but once Zach asks what happened, I completely loose it. The tears fall, making streaks along my checks. They just keep falling and falling. My body goes all shaky and it's getting harder and harder to breath. I'm starting to loose my balance and Zach rushes up to catch me just in time before I completely loose my balance. He sits me on his lap while I bawl my eyes out once again, for the second time today. He rubs my back and just holds me. He doesn't try and sooth me because he knows that this is hard for me.
I finally calmed down a bit to where I was just laying my head on his shoulder while he still holds me tight.
"So, what happened?" he asks calmly and I repeat everything that the bitchy nurse told me just a little bit ago. He sighs and tells me it's going to be okay. I pull my long hair back into a pony tail and get up. Cody is starting to fuss so I pull out one of her bottles and take her our of her car seat. I wrap her up in a blanket and put the nipple to her mouth and she easily takes it. I watch as my little angle drinks and her eyes start to droop. Slowly, they close. I put her over my shoulder and burp her until she does. She pukes a bit but thank gosh I put a burping rag on my shoulder first. I lay her in my arms again and watch as she slowly closes her eyes once again and falls quietly to sleep. After a while, I swiftly put her in her car seat and cover her. I stand up, asking Zach to watch her as I go use the restroom and he tells me to go. I make my way to the restroom and Lock the door. I pee and wipe, pulling my pants up. I make my way to the mirror, scared to see what I look like. My eyes are blood shot just around the edges, tear tracks are marked on my checks, and I've cried all of my makeup off. I splash some water on my face and dry it off. I open the door and start to make the track back to the waiting area. Right when I turn the corner to the waiting area, I spot and guy in scrubs and a white coat. Knowing that it's the doctor for my dad, I stand still. Take a couple deep breaths before I make my way to the doctor.
"I'm Doctor Han, I'll be Shawn's doctor while he's in here. So, as I was saying to this young man, your father is in a coma right now. Not by his choice but by ours. We put him in one for only about two days because if he can get through these two days, he will recover just fine. He hit his dead pretty hard. He had some brain bleeding but we got that taken car of. We gave him medicine for all the pain that he is in and he has a brace for his ribs. Other than that, there is nothing we can do besides wait and let time heal him. I'll keep you updated for the next 248 hours because these are going to be the most stressed and scary 48 hours to come. We will try out best to keep him here with us Ma'am. Please be patient with us and we'll do our best. Is there any questions?"
"No thank you," Zach answers for me. My body is going numb and heart race is piking up. My eyes are going blurry again and I'm scared I'm going to fall. I reach out for something, anything to hold on to. Zach pulls me to him and sets me down, once again. My eyes start to close slowly and I don't know what's going on anymore. My eyes are closed and I feel like I'm drowning, That I can't seem to swim upwards, I just keep going down, down, down. All the way down until I hit rock bottom, the darkness.
