Bucky's POV

I felt someone poke my arm and I jumped up, hoping it would be Maddie. "Maddie!" I said hopefully but when I looked down at her, her eyes were still closed and a machine was still breathing for her. "No, Buck. It's me. You need to get some proper sleep. In a proper bed. You've been here for what 6 days straight. And you need to eat." Steve said. I rubbed my tired eyes and agreed.  I placed a kiss on Maddie's forehead and one on her knuckles before Steve and I left the medical bay.

We walked into the kitchen and to my surprise no one was down there. I walked over to the cupboard and got the bread and peanut butter, then started to make a sandwich. "Hey Buck, I was wondering if you wanted to go on the team mission with us tomorrow? Bruce isn't coming, so there will be someone here to watch over her." Steve asked. I finished making my food and sat next to him. "Ok, just so I don't loose all my skills." I said and saw the sad smile appear on Steve's face. Once I had finished my food I washed up the plate and then left the kitchen to do some training, alone.

I was in my room getting changed as I had just come out the shower. I felt a wave of tiredness wash over my body, so I decided to go to bed. Maddie wouldn't mind. She wouldn't want me to punish myself for this. Even though it was my fault.

I woke up to FRIDAY telling me I had to get ready for the mission. I had a nightmare last night, but I didn't go into Winter mode. It was about Maddie. I watched as they broke every bone in her body and eventually killed her. But I couldn't do anything. I could only watch. But like I said, I managed to gain control over my own mind. I got up, showered and quickly got into my mission clothes.

I walked down to the briefing room just in time and I listened  as Steve explained the mission. Once he had stopped talking we all left the room and got to the helicarrier. Even though Maddie wouldn't leave my mind, I tried to focus on the mission so I would actually be there when she woke up.
