Sloane was awake before her alarm clock rang. She ate breakfast quickly and in minutes she was on her way to the Pentagon with the note on the seat beside her. Her first stop was at Joseph's office. She explained the events of the other night including the note to him.
"Whoever this guy is, he spoilt my night" Sloane told Joseph.
"Well you better take this down to the lab. I'll ring Astrid and tell her you're on your way." He replied. Sloane nodded and headed back for her car. Metro labs was located a bit further from the pentagon. Because it was also a research institute, it needed a lot more space than just a floor but its personnel were good, they were very skilled and also very smart. If there was any new weapon that the agents needed, it was built and tested there. Sloane parked her car in an empty space in the parking lot and at the entrance she was greeted by Astrid Farnsworth, she was the director of Metro labs and also a scientist herself.
"Hello agent Preston." Astrid said as she shook hands with Sloane.
"How are you Astrid?"
"I am fine. The captain tells me you have something you would like us to look at."
"Oh yes. I need you to dust for finger prints. It 'flew' in through my window last night, so to speak, amidst several gunshots." Sloane replied while handing Astrid the plastic bag that contained the note. She read it and then said,
"Wow. That is big. Whoever this guy must really not want you to disturb his plans."
Sloane response was only a nod.
"Well let's head down to the forensic room. Let's see what they can pick up. But it's going to take a while."
Sloane followed Astrid through the white painted building that had different machines and gadgets. They passed a room which contained a lot of instruments. They were testing a new gadget. It was a kind of gun. When they shot the bullet and it turned the target before it invisible, they concluded that it was working.
Sloane and Astrid approached the forensic room and Astrid handed the bag to John Scott, who took care of most forensic works, including dusting for fingerprints.
"This might take a while." He told them.
"Sure, whenever it's ready, I can wait" Sloane replied.
John got to work with the note. While they waited Sloane looked around the room. It was very spacious, with several creatures in bottles floating in weird looking liquid. From the corner of her eye she spotted one of the scientists staring at her. Was he checking her out? He noticed that she was looking at her him so he went back to whatever it was he was doing on his computer.
"Hey who is that?" Sloane asked Astrid while pointing at the guy.
"Oh geeky Barry? He's just one of those computer nerds we hired recently. He's really good with tracking and stuff." Astrid answered.
"But he is kind of cute though."
Sloane agreed. He had a young face and brown hair that made his brown eyes look more like hazel. But his eyes were hidden behind the thick glasses he wore. As Sloane studied him, her pager that hung on her waist beeped. The only time her pager beeped was if there was a mission that needed to be taken care of.
"Um Astrid could you keep the results for me, I'll drop by later to pick it up. I got to go, the boss needs me" Sloane explained.
Astrid agreed and even volunteered to drop it over at the pentagon. Sloane thanked her and quickly got into her car and headed back to the pentagon. She wondered what could be problem now.
On her way to the briefing room, Richard fell into step beside her. Ugh, this guy again, she thought. But instead she smiled at him. Once they got to the room, Allen Grey, the head of the department and also the head of the team was already there waiting for them, with a bunch of bionic people.
"There's been a report of shooting around Corpus Christi and something was stolen from one of the weapon stores the federal government owns." He said. "We don't know who and why, but we are going to find out."
He went over the plan with Sloane and Richard who took over the mission. A few minutes later they were in a jet heading for Corpus Christi.NB:
