Things were quiet for a while. There was no alert about a break in or any weird events for weeks. Sloane even met with Trisha sometimes just to hang out and know the town better before she left the next month. And right now they were getting manicures and pedicures at Sloane’s usual salon. It was like a tradition both of used to do when they were still in high school. While they waited for their nail polish to dry, Sloane finally decided to tell Trisha about Richard. Even though she hadn’t heard from him though. Apart from when they saw each other at the Pentagon.
“So there’s this guy…”
“I knew it. Is he cute? Rich? Handsome?” Trisha rattled off.
Sloane laughed and put the magazine she was reading down on her laps.

“Well he is my partner. He’s been hitting on me since forever. But I doubt I like him.”
“There you go again. That’s nonsense talk. You clearly like this guy.”
“I don’t think so. I have no time for men. Too much trouble.” Sloane said and picked up the magazine again.
Trisha laughed. “Again if you keep saying that and you eventually turn into a cat lady don’t say I did not warn you. And what’s his name?”
“Richard; Richard Austen.”

Sloane liked the idea that Trisha always worried about her. But she would really like if she stopped saying she was going to end up as a lonely cat person. She doesn’t even like cats to start with. But being with a man was the last thing she needed. It did not hurt to think about Richard though. Those blue eyes of his and masculine scent of his. The way his lips curved to show a set of perfect white teeth and the strong jar, the way it juts out when he talked. He seemed so… so perfect.

Her thoughts were interrupted when her phone rang. She pulled out her phone from her bag, careful enough to not spoil her nails. When she saw the caller ID, she did not know whether to be annoyed or happy. But she answered anyways,
“What do you want Austen?” Sloane was certain that Trisha turned immediately she heard his name.
“I call in peace.” He joked.
“Actually I called because I was thinking about you and I remembered you still owe me dinner. How about tonight?”
“Um… I do not remember that. Besides I have a lot to do.”
“Do I hear pick me up at eight?”
“Richard…”
“Great eight it is. See you later Sloane.” Richard replied and terminated the call.
“So what did he say?” Trisha asked her with her ears very attentive.
“I’m going to dinner with him.”
“Yes! I guess you should also get your hair done. It’s way overdue.”
Sloane touched the ends of her hair. Trisha was right; it was due for some trim. Maybe it was not a bad idea to get her hair done, who knows, Richard would probably like it too.
