I sit by the counter,
Bored and lost,
Looking at that sky,
Slowly being enveloped in frost.

That was when I heard the sound,
Of your footsteps coming towards me,
You wore that red dress you loved so much,
Your smiling face I finally did see.

You gave a penny to the man,
Who sat beside me, old and kind,
He smiled at you and picked me up,
And your hand's embrace I did find.

You smiled when you looked at me,
At my bright red just like yours,
Like your cheeks and like your dress,
Like your glittering eyes that had me allured.

You ran towards your friends,
To show me to them at once,
They all looked happy to see me,
In all their hands I did bounce.

"It's so pretty," one of them said,
"This balloon looks so cute,"
You proudly smiled at your choice,
When I stood in your hand, mute.

You firmly held the thin black thread,
That me to you did connect,
As you ran all around the town,
Memories for me you did collect.

Somewhere along the way,
Your grip came lose and I flew away,
Away into that distant sky,
Looking down at you to play.

You tried to catch me,
You jumped up and down, over and over,
But maybe I was not destined to be,
To be with you forever.

I cried when I flew away,
Cause I knew I'd never see,
Your face again, or your smile,
And nor you could see me.

The sky was terrifying,
Limitless and wide,
Large enough for the world to confine,
Where I could get lost, or maybe hide.

My journey upward went for a while,
Until that sight I saw,
Beyond the terrors of the the boundless sky,
Lay that sight without a flaw.

The sight of stars floating in the sky,
Their light and warmth was bright,
That was when my life ended,
With a single pop, I lost that sight.
