Chapter 6
Darlene.
"I know you don't want to do that, and I won't force you." Lucas says pulling out his cell phone from his pocket. "I'll call Tylon right away and tell him his offer doesn't sit well with us."
"It will benefit our pack a lot you know." Ethan comments. "Specially the trade, and security, this will cut down bills."
"But we have no choice but to decline. A beta can't be away from the pack for that long, and sending Darlene is not an option." Lucas explains to Ethan.
I sit quietly across Lucas in his office as Lucas and Ethan talk this through. There is nothing for me to say. I'm never going back there. I've made that decision 4 years ago. My wolf howls in my mind wanting to go back to her mate.
I let out a deep sigh and rub my forehead with my hand. "I'll do it." I manage to say before I can change my mind. "I'll go." I add.
"Darlene you don't have to." Lucas says turning towards me.
"I want to. Lucas you have helped me a lot since you accepted me in your pack, and I want to do some thing for you in return. This is about our pack and I won't be selfish enough to only think of myself." I tell him before I can change my mind. Here I go complicating things for myself. But it's for the pack. I repeat the reason in my head over and over again.
"You sure about this?" Lucas asks. And I nod. "I want you to think one more time."
"Yes, I'll do it Lucas." I assure him.
"Darlene if you are doing this because you think that you are some kind of burden over us then don't. You are a loyal pack member and my friend, there is nothing more I want you to do."
I smile at his words. "I need to do this. I can't hide forever. As much as I'm doing this for the pack I'm doing it for myself. I need to face my fears and move on. We both know that at some point in my life I'll have to do that. Better sooner than later."
Lucas walks around his table to come and stand beside me. "It won't take more then 2-3 months. I promise then you will be back, and remember we can cancel anytime you change your mind." He tells me. I nod at his words with a smile. "I'll let Talon know then."
I nod again but don't stay in his office to hear the conversation between him and Talon.
...
Weekend rolls faster than sound this time. I am to leave on Monday. Three months. It's all for the pack I repeat to myself over and over again. While my wolf keeps telling me how excited she is to see her mate again. Sometimes I wonder if she forgot we were humiliated and rejected by that jerk. That we are unwanted, and she is getting excited for no reason at all.
"You seem like you are about to piss in your pants." Ethan pops up out of no where and sits down beside me on the couch.
"Good thing I didn't drink any thing then." I reply sarcastically.
He scoots closer to me and puts his arm around my shoulder pulling me into him. "Ryan and Nathan are coming with you so you won't be alone." He says with his tone now sounding sadder. "I wish I can come too, I'd love to watch as Talon's jaw drops when he sees you."
I laugh at his attempt to cheer me up. "There won't be any jaw dropping."
"Hell yeah there will be. The chubby, naive, dumb, rogue is now a hot, perfect, strong and the most sexy third in command and trainer of the Silver moon pack!" He says excitedly. "Hell even my jaw is dropping even though I have been there all the way watching you change." He grins at me. "See my magic? You should be so thankful to me for this change and appreciate me more. I won't mind if you bow to me either or call me master Ethan of changing chubby girls into sexy jaw droppers."
I laugh out loud at his comments. "I'm not sexy." I say between laughter. "And you ain't no master." I say playfully hitting him.
What he said is not wrong though. Ethan plays the biggest role is what I've became today. He trained me. He became my friend and held my hand through the hard time. When I thought I couldn't do something, when I was breaking apart and failing, he was always there to cheer me and tell me other wise. He used to tell me I'm much more stronger than any female wolf he had encountered in his life. That what I managed to become in four years is what many can't even achieve in double that time. Well I don't think I'm any special or anything. I believe it's all his words of encouragement that did their magic.
"You are." Ethan insist. "I bet Talon would wish he would have died instead of rejecting you! You'll probably find him by your feet asking you to forgive him." He pauses for a while and silence stretches around us. "Will you forgive him?" He adds playfully.
I shake my head. "I'm there for work Ethan. I'm not going back there for anything more."
"Believe whatever makes you sleep at night." Another moment of silence starches us before Ethan breaks it. "I'll miss you." He says more quietly.
"I'll miss you too." I reply with a kiss on cheek.
...Talon
"Alpha Lucas is here." My beta Jacob lets me know through our mind link.
"I'll be right there." I exit my office and walk down to the parking lot where alpha Lucas is exiting the car with the same three men he came here with last week. Right behind his car another car parks but no one comes out for a long time. Mean while I greet the alpha and thank him for accepting my offer to which he nods with a frown.
Finally the doors to the other car opens and a tall bulky tan guy walks out the back seat who I guess is the third in command. Another man gets out of the drivers seat but my focus stays on gamma. He, as expected is bulky. Too bulky and tall like every other male in Silver moon pack. Like his alpha he wears a frown on his face.
It's like everyone in this pack has some mood issues. The gamma walks to the front where his alpha is and shakes my hand a bit too firmly, before going back and standing behind his alpha.
"I'm glad you accepted our offer, it would be great working with you." I tell him.
To my words him and alpha Lucas share a look probably talking through mind link. "I'm afraid you have misunderstood. This is Ryan. He is not my third in command but he will be staying here with with my gamma." Alpha Lucas declares.
After hearing this my gaze travels to the man who walked out of the drivers seat. Not bulky at all, tall, and from no where looked like a fighter. But what surprised me the most were his familiar blue eyes and his smirk. He looked somewhat familiar. Alpha Lucas follows my line of vision to the man I'm looking at to surprised to speak. "And this is Dr Nathan Lambert. One of our pack doctors." Lucas explains. "And finally my third in command," Lucas starts but I'm not only surprised when the passenger side door opens and a girl walks out. All oxygen leaves my lungs watching her come forward. Her head high, piercing hazel eyes emotionless and lips set in a thin line. "Alpha Talon, meet Darlene. My third in command and the trainer of Silver moon pack."
