Chapter 17
Darlene
How dare he.
How could he call me his after all he has done.
The picture of Kender leaving his room in his shirt this morning flashes in my mind.
"I'm no ones!" I yell back almost spitting on his face. "Especially I'm not yours!" I add. "Now let go of me or I'll scream and everyone will know how low is their mighty alpha."
Talon glares back at me but doesn't dare say another word. I guess his reputation to the pack is extremely important.
Talon shuts his eyes for a moment and opens them again. The color of his eyes is now back to his forest green. He takes another deep breath before letting go of my hands. And backing away from me altogether as if I'm suddenly burning him. The sparks disappear and for a moment I want that feeling back.
I move away from the floor and eye Talon who was now staring at me with some expression of shock playing on his face. Before he can make any other move I pad towards the stairs and to my room.
I lock my door and jump face down on the bed. Surprisingly no tears fought to escape my eyes. I feel too numb for anything.

A hard knock on the door jolts me awake. I run towards the door and open it to find Nathan on the other side. He eyes me up and down and I do the same. Following his gaze to realize I'm still wearing the same outfit that I wore to work yesterday. I look across the room towards where the mirror is facing me and realize I look horrible. Shocked I run my fingers through my hair trying to make them look decent. That's when I realize my room is too bright with sun shining high in the sky. "Damn I'm late again." I realize.
I start running around my room confused not knowing what to do. "Ryan took care of the training already. You okay?" Nathan speaks up for the first time. I totally forgot he is there.
"Damn." I curse picking up my cell phone from the floor. I don't even know how it got there. I click the home button and the screen lights up showing the time written across it. 11:38. "What! Alya is going to kill me." I say padding towards the closet to find fresh set of cloths.
"Yeah about that. You should call in and excuse yourself from work today." Nathan says sitting down on the couch.
"Why?" I ask stopping in my tracks and trying to look up to him.
"Alpha Lucas is coming over for the pack meeting today and he wants to meet you."
"Meeting?" I ask puzzled.
"You didn't know?" Nathan asks with his brow raised. "The rogues we caught a few days ago, the ones that bit you, they somehow escaped the dungeon yesterday. So Talon called the neighboring pack alphas for a meeting." Nathan explained.
"Escaped? How? Their dungeon is guarded heavily as far as I know." I state I've never been down in Edge wood's dungeon but I heard about it and its security and no one is even allowed to breath near it.
Nathan let's out a sigh. "This is why alpha Talon is furious. He is giving everyone a hard time since yesterday. It only explains that someone from inside the pack helped them escape."

I take a quick shower and call Alya about not being able to come for work today. I come across Ryan and Nathan standing near the pack house entrance discussing something. I walk up to them and without a word Ryan points towards the parking where Talon was greeting Alpha Lucas. Behind Lucas stood 3 his personal guards that follow him around every where. I notice another man coming forward and shaking hands with Talon. From his powerful posture I could tell he is an alpha as well. He seems to be around his mid 40s. The three alphas started walking towards the entrance. Ryan, Nathan and I sort aside for them to walk in. Lucas waves with a smile when he notice us and starts walking towards us while Talon and the other alpha walk away towards the stairs without sparring us a glance.
I hug Lucas meeting him mid way. "Hey Darlene." He says hugging me back and then looking towards Ryan and Nathan who too come forward and shake hands with Lucas. "So how are you all?" He asks to which Ryan very first comment is about how hard it is to find food in a pack house with so many members. "Other than that we are pretty much the same" Ryan adds. Lucas chuckles at his reply before turning back to me. "What about you?" He asks me.
"Well it isn't as bad as I thought it would." I reply honestly with a shrug.
"I'm proud of you Darlene." He says with his hand petting my shoulder lightly. "I know how hard can this get, but seeing you standing here with a smile and still strong makes me extremely proud to have you as a member of my pack."
I smile at Lucas' words of encouragement while Ryan comments how this meeting is making him emotional to which Nathan lightly slaps the back of his head.
"Anyways alpha how are Nell and Ethan?" I ask changing the subject.
"Ethan is still Ethan, and Nell is fine. She misses you a lot though, and Always complains about sending 'her best lady friend' away." Lucas let's out a sigh. "You have no idea how hard it was to stop her from following me to this meeting."
"You should have brought her along. I miss her too much and there are so many things I wish I could tell her."
Lucas let's out a laugh at my words. "You mean you could gossip and Judge people with her?"
"Yes. There are so many people here I need to judge with my best lady friend." I tell him with a smirk and hear Ryan mutter 'women' is annoyance under his breath.
"You will see her soon." Lucas comments after a while. "The doctor asked her to avoid long journeys for the up coming few months." Lucas continue.
"Why? Is she okay?" I ask worried. Lucas, who gets so sick and worry even when his mate sneezes, stood taller and proud after hearing my question. A secret glint shines in his eyes.
"She is fine. She is pregnant."
I cover my mouth with my hands in surprise for a second before jumping to hug Lucas again. He hugs me back tightly and laughs. "Congratulations!!!" I shout pulling back from the hug. "I'm so happy for you!" I almost scream in joy.
"Finally! It's time we meet our new alpha." Ryan comments.
Nathan congratulates Lucas as well.
To busy in having our little moment of happiness that we totally forgot Lucas is here on a meeting.
A few seconds later beta Jacob walks in the pack house with someone beside him. We only notice them when Jacob speaks, "alpha Lucas, the meeting is about to start." He says with a slight bow.
"I'll see you guys later then." Lucas says to us before walking towards them. There was another person with Jacob that I failed to notice earlier. Lucas formally shakes hands with the guy who I notice is young around Lucas' age. He has a permanent frown on his face and his mouth is set in a straight line. Jacob offers both men to follow him. They both start following him towards the stairs but the unknown guy stops abruptly in his tracks and his head turns towards me. Our eyes meet and some weird emotion plays on his stone hard face for a spilt of a second but it's gone before I can try to guess it.
He stares right at me for a long while emotionlessly and then abruptly turns around and walks away following Jacob and Lucas.
