I stuck my finger in my ear and wiggled it around just to make sure I heard what he said, "Oh gosh I must of heard you wrong, did you say the ocean?" He put his hands on his hips and nodded. I wanted to slap that smug smile right off his face.

"I'm sorry but last time I checked you're a-" I looked around to see if anyone was around and lowered my voice, "mermaid. The ocean should of been the first place you looked!" Tyne waggled his finger in my face, "No because I knew that Mari loved the surface world so if she just ran off because she was upset I would of been able to find her by now. Plus it isn't easy to get legs."

I slapped his hand away, "I thought you only had to come up here and wait till you dried off." He shook his head, "You really shouldn't believe everything the movies tell you. Although that one movie by Walt Disney was pretty close to the truth. You have to ask the king for them and almost always he denies these requests. He only gave me my legs because I am his advisor's son, I had a good reason, and he trusted me enough not to do anything stupid."

"Okay suppose we do have to search for Mari in the ocean how am I suppose to do that? Last time I checked I'm not half fish." He chuckled, "Let me worry about that." He put all the dishes into the sink and headed for the door, "By the way what is the moon's phase tonight?"

"I don't know, I think it's suppose to be a full moon why?" He turned and smiled at me, "Mermaids get they're strength from the moon and since it's full my powers will be at their peak. So be ready because we're leaving tonight." Then he finally walked out of the room.

Why must I have the weirdest life? I sighed and shook my head, as I shook I saw the clock on the microwave read 8:45 and work started at 9:00. My eyes widened as I ran out of the kitchen and up the stairs to go have a shower. I didn't even wait till the water was warm to get in, once I was out I blow dried my hair and quickly went to my room to put on a pair of black slacks and a white button down blouse.

Once I was in the car I mentally high fived myself when I saw it was only 8:50 before speeding off of my ridiculously long drive way. I thanked the tiny town we now lived in since it only took me about  six minutes to get across town where the publishing firm was.

I quickly found a parking spot and jogged to the sliding glass doors, when I entered I didn't have enough time to marvel at the hardwood floors, the furniture that stood around the fireplace, or the flowers that stood everywhere making the lobby have a very cozy feeling.

I went right up to the front desk towards the perky looking brunette receptionist. "Hey my name is Iris Fields, I'm here for Dave Watson. I'm his new assistant." I said with a giddy smile on my face probably from all the adrenaline that was still coursing through me. She looked at me with her hazel eyes and smiled, "Hi I'm Rebecca but everyone calls me Becky, anyways you should take the elevator to the left up to the third floor and his office is the last door at the end of the hallway. Oh, and welcome to the family."

Becky gave me a warm smile as I waved bye to her and took the elevator up. I walked down to the end of the hallway that opened into a large corridor with glass windows and white furniture. I put my purse underneath the desk outside of the two dark wood double doors before knocking on them.

"Come in!" I heard Dave yell. When I pushed through the doors I looked around his office. The whole wall behind his desk was glass giving a view of the town and the ocean behind it. While his other walls were mostly jam packed with pictures I assumed to be his family and friends and various pieces of artwork.

"How nice to see you again Iris! Why is your face so red?" Dave said as he walked up to shake my hand. "I wish in a rush this morning." I said as I shook his hand and tried not to make it too obvious that I was still catching my breath. "Iris this isn't the military you can be a few minutes late, it's not like I'm going to throw you into the ocean. Besides I know last night must of been stressful since I was with you for most of it, and you friend Paige told my Tyne stayed the night."

He got this weird dazed look in his eye when he spoke of Paige, I mentally shuddered. "Yeah it was kind of a long night, and speaking of Tyne I sort of have to go somewhere with him." A knowing glint sparkled in his eyes while I went on. "I don't know where exactly we're going or what's going to happen but I just wanted to ask you if I ever have to come back here. Will you still accept me?" It was true when I told him that I don't know what would happen to me  but if this was only a couple week thing I wanted to make sure that if I had to come back to dry land I would still have a source of income.

Dave's face relaxed into a soft smile, "Iris since the minute you walked through those door you were already apart of this family. You will always be welcome and have a job here." I smiled gratefully and hugged him. Then I turned around to go back to my desk outside when he called from behind me.

"Happy swimming Iris."
