Chapter Six:
"But who can remember pain, once it's over? All that remains of it is a shadow, not in the mind even, in the flesh. Pain marks you, but too deep to see. Out of sight, out of mind."
~ Margaret Atwood"I love you mother." I tell her hugging her tightly.
"I love you too sweetie, I know you will succeed. I will be watching from here, okay? Tell Lennie I said 'hi'," She says holding me even tighter and referring to her brother who lives in Orlando, and will let me stay with him.
"I know you will mom, and I'll tell him. I gotta go, the taxi is waiting for me at the front." I say pulling away.
She smiles at me, but I see the tears in her eyes.
"I'm so proud of you." She whispers.
I smile softly at her, and kiss her forehead.
"I know, mom."I grab my suitcase from the floor, and smile at my fragile mother sitting on her hospital bed.
"Are you sure you'll be okay? I don't want to leave you alone." I tell her worriedly.
"It's fine, Annalina. Go chase your dreams."
With a heartbreaking goodbye- I do.
"Thank you for flying with British Airways, have a fun trip!" The perky American lady tells us as we get off the plane.
I walk to get my bags, and wait a few minutes until they appear.
When they do, I grab them and walk into the crowd. I look for my Uncle Lennie, and see him holding a sign with my name on it.
I jog to him and throw my bags on the floor and hug him.
"I missed you so much, Uncle Lennie." I tell him.
"I missed you too, kiddo." He says, his familiar American accent brings a smile to my face.
