"Cut's too deep for a band-aid solution
We too deep in this thing to never lose me"

The sun streaming from the window in the room that Uncle Lennie gave me is what wakes me up.

I let out a yawn and rub my hands over my eyes. I look at the digital clock on the night stand next to my bed and read the big, bold red numbers.

2:05 in the afternoon.

Fuck I was late. I was supposed to wake up at ten in the morning at the latest.

I speedily, but dizzily get up from my bed and make my way to the bathroom inside of the room.

I brush my teeth, take a shower, and speedily try to find clothes in my mess of a suitcase.

I hadn't really brought anything special for the judges cut. I had mostly brought my prized jeans, few t-shirts, lots of jean shorts, and about four or five dresses.

Elena tried to get me to go to the mall with her many times to find the "perfect dress," but I just couldn't find the time to go.

I search through the bottom of my suitcase and feel the corner of a box touching my fingers.

I frown in confusion, and take the box out.

It's plain white, with nothing on it.
I open it and see tissue paper. I ruffle through it and find a beautiful black dress.

I laugh shakily, and immediately reach for my phone.

I dial and hear the ringtone ring.

"Hey bitch, I see you've found my present." The voice of my best friend says through the line.

"I- I don't know what to say. When did you put it in?" I ask amazed.

Elena chuckles in glee.
"It was easy. I put it in when you fell asleep on Friday."

"It was like eight in the morning, and we were hung over as fuck, how did you find the strength?"

She laughs loudly.
"You had way more to drink than I did."

I blink and sit on the bed, still wrapped in only a towel.

"Thank you so much. That's why you're my best friend, Elena."

"Don't mention it, if you weren't going to get yourself a dress, then I was."
