Kids in the dark- All Time Low

Tyler and Josh had dated before.

They were boyfriends back in junior year of high school, but broke up after Josh cheated on Tyler with his friend, Brendon. It was a big deal since they were the first openly gay couple in the school. Nobody knew how to react to the situation. Specially their friends since they shared the same group of it. It kinda slipt in team Tyler and team Josh until the very last day.

Everyone, even the teachers, were sad about this issue separating this close group of friends that have been together since elementary.

They continued their lives after graduation like nothing happened. They kept hanging out, but nothing that was there before remained. No love, no lust.

Eventually, Tyler got married to a blonde girl named Jenna and had a little boy that they named Matthew Robert Patrick -in honor of his best friend- Joseph a year later. It was a marriage everyone they knew looked up to, until Jenna sadly passed away in a car accident. Tyler was devastated, and so was his son. They moved back to Tyler's hometown to start from zero...kind of.

Josh, meanwhile, kept dating Brendon until he dropped out of college. They ended in good terms. He got his own place back home and adopted a kitten. He started working at a record store where he made a pretty good salary. Everything was great, but he didn't felt like it was enough. He felt...lonely, despite having his kitten to keep him company. He went to a adoption agency and adopted, obviously, a little girl. Her name is Colleen Kelly Dun.

They forgot about each other years ago. They went from strangers to best friends, then boyfriends and now strangers again.

"I'll be okay, dad,"the five year old boy says to his father as he sees all his classmates rush inside the unfamiliar building,"Don't worry."

Tyler sighs and nods,"I know that, kiddo. Remember to eat and drink water. If you feel uncomfortable with anything, tell the teacher to call me and I'll be here as soon as I can. Don't bully anyone, treat them the way you want to be treated by them. I don't want my big boy to be in trouble the first day, do I?"

He is about to keep going but sees the annoyed face his son has. "Just...be careful, promise?" The little boy hugs his dad and takes the small red backpack he is holding out for him.

"Promise,"Matthew puts the backpack on and gives his dad a kiss on the cheek,"Go home, dad. Rest. I know you didn't sleep well last night. I won't take no for a answer. Do it for mommy, at least. I'll see you later!"

The little boy walks along with the other kids to their respective classrooms, leaving his father standing in the entrance with other moms and dads. He sighs and walks to his car.

His mind is filled with all the potential scenarios that could happen to Matt just today. He is very protective of his son, after all, he is truly all he has left.

He drives back to their home and gets to work on his songs. He has a job in a music store near Matt's school, but he also has some gigs on a local pub at night where he sings his original songs. He makes enough money to cover his and Matt's basic needs as well as something extra and that's okay with him.

His son is happy so he is happy.
